Seals & Bass
 Im pi$$ed,
this is the 2nd time I lost fish to these stankin pigs.
Any way I pull up to my cubby hole in RI
and 3 to 4" pogies are flipping on the beach, so I break out my twinkie rod and 6lb test and start to proceed to melt the drag, any way half the spool and I pop off a empr minnow Bummer.
so next I put on my last (and this pi$$es me off to no end)
Ryan Smith little widget plug, I lost one to a seal the other week
out it goes and Im on, my drag is screaming, its a nice bass. I get the bass to the wash and its freaking out seal is on it. I could'nt pull the bass in it was pulling drag
next thing i know Im melting my drag on my reel
so i break off.
ok I go rig up all Pi$$ed of cause I lost my last ryan smith on a friggen nother seal.
rig up come down with an emporer minnow Guess the color. and im on get the fish in and another seal takes the bass. man this sucks out loud. any way I kept a 16 lb fish
and settled in on needles for the night. Im glad I did'nt throw my fat boys I make I think I would have lost it.
Im sick of these friggen %$%$%$%$ing seals and want to feed these %$%$%$%$ing things to white sharks.
%$%$%$%$

P.S. the water was exploding and If I had a camera You Guys coulda had another front page
Im so pissed off .
I dont mind popping a bass from to much leverage or pressuring the bass or getting pulled into rocks.
I fished rocks this week and left bass.
But i hate loosing lures that aint made no more and custom wood made by others that git me fish
God I hate seals

I was off of Chatham a few weeks ago and they were all over the place, and aren't afraid of anything. Something needs to be done to control the population as they are pushing out the bass from Monomoy.

No sympathy for you, it comes with the territory. Yesterday me and LaPorte and Lafleur went way east o'Chatham. FAC all the way out. I rigged a spreader bar up special Friday night and after it was deployed from up top on the long line aft it was in the water 3 minutes tops when Bang, first tuna on. Set out a blurple daisy with a pinky on the end and five minutes later it gets blasted and we have our second. 5 total then too many boats so we steam southeast for a while and fi9nd some whales and the draggers with fish bustin' around them as they dump the trash and we get blasted 5 more time on the bird chain and gm. Then we decide we have had enough of 30 to 40 lb tunoids and steam west off to the big M and set out 300 yds of wire twice with Uncle Stevies special tied chutes in 65 of water and wham several bass to 37 pounds and a couple ten pound blues so we call it a day and head for the barn. All that and we only burned 23 gallons. Crab had so many boats you could walk across them. We stayed away on the fringe S.E. The one SBFT we kept was stuffed with large sand eels and shrimp ( krill?) about two inches long. Hundreds of them. Great fight on the 30 class. We got it down as a crew and we ain't done with it yet by far.

flap,
OT
(clean out your box)
(nothing to do with seals but)
I was thinking of making a run to crab ledge this week but if it is that crowded I may pass (it is a 40+mile run each way for me). The tuna action here has slowed. Did you go out to the BC bouy at all? I don't mind seeing a few boats around but I hate crowds and tight fishing situations.

I'm sorry guys, I tried to PM flap but his box is jammed. I would have liked to get his feedback on that area. @ 3 bucks a gallon, and 60 gals+ for a day of fishing I like to have a fresh report. I will not go otherwise anymore it is not worth it.
More OT:
BM, I trolled that giant green plug and it is the cats ass! When I was off shore I took it out and the the other guys on the boat could not believe that thing. Everyone who has seen it wants to know where the hell I got it. It works best at slower speeds not at 7.5 knots but that is OK. It will be swimming around squibby in a couple weeks on wire or perhaps my downrigger. The others all swim great as well take turns on the other rod.
I slowed the boat down to about 4 knots and that thing looks killer. One of the other guys said, that F***er is the real deal...will you look at that thing in the water!!!
On topic:
Seals do suck and this is what you get with federal protection. They are hangng around here on MV beaches and are not afraid of people. I personally would like to see some limited season on them to keep them at reasonable numbers and to not draw in the white shark which I think it will do in a few years.

Dave - sorry my plugs are so seal friendly. Hope these help - I'll finish rigging and pop them in the mail tomorrow.
And by the way - the mack plug is slightly used. It was from my own bag so I hope you'll pardon the hook scratches etc.

Nice plugs Ryan.
Bassmaster, like I said, comes with the territory now so suck it up and stop whining. Want to catch real fish and not deal with seals and mung? Get a baot and toll out a mile off the beach in Chatham all the big bass you want and no seals taken 'em.
Karl, E. I.'s are in your future.

WESTBROOK, Maine (AP) -- The seals look up with sad eyes, some too tired or sick to lift their heads. Some have been abandoned by their mothers, others are malnourished. A few have been injured by sharks looking for a seal pup snack.
While the sick animals await treatment, workers and volunteers blend fish frappes for the young pups. With five feedings a day, they consume 500 pounds (225 kilograms) of fish daily.

Seals
I wonder if PETA would get upset if someone promoted a Boston Harba seal hunt? I firmly believe they respond to lures, mostly surface type poppers or swimmers close to the surface. FDish several places where they are not showing when I arrive then they show themselves after 10 or 15 casts. If only we could get Pamela Anderson and Brittney Spears to start wearing tight seal skin clothing, so it becomes popular and away we go.
