While the real boat fisherman does the same to get near shore // usually when I,m fishing ,the rule of thumb is if ya can,t cast your bait.lure , on the shore //then ya too far out ++++++++????????????????????????

Mike , quick story.
I bring a first timer surf fishing on the Vineyard, Set him up and tell him what to do. I watch him and start "lol" big time! Turns out he is a lefty and is holding my reel upside down and he is casting big time to the left side .
I cast like a arrow 50 or so yards in front of me.. I keep an eye on him and say to my self, he just started surf fishing
He keeps casting to his left side 30-50 yards but it's only 10 yards from the shore, get the picture? He got 2 bass I got zerro!

That's cause the fish know if you are in a boat or on shore. They swim away to avoid you. So if you are fishing from shore they swim out away from the shore but if you are fishing from a boat they swim in towards the shore. Never forget....them fish know!!

Close to shore

I always enjoyed going to P-Town and casting up on the beach with a lure that had no hooks. When you dragged it back into the water the bluefish would smack the lure and you would have fun. The guys (gay guys) sitting on the beach would hear first and then see the lure bounce off the tiny rocks and sand and would jump in amzement when the fish hit the plug only inches from waters edge. Thats close.

You're describing surf fisherman that buy boats. They fish what they know; the shore. And there's plenty of fish there too. The "real" boat fisherman (whatever that means?) focus on the holes, reefs, rips, channels, etc., away from shore.

Best regards,
Roger

Quick & true story: A number of years ago in Montauk, I get out to this rock which is about 50 yards from shore and I am about 25-30 yards further out than my closest caster...everyone is behind me basically. A huge school of bass in the 15-20 lb class comes in on peanuts and they are all around me and are bumping my legs as they are swarming on the bait. I cannot hook up as my cast, even under handed is going past them....I try just dropping the bucktail in and swirling it around but no takers...I look behind me and see literally everyone and I mean everyone behind me is hooked up....I was so frustrated I started laughing and eventually got knocked off the rock by the bass around my legs....what an experience!

I thought your Bluefish curse was lifted after all the monster bass you got a few nights ago. Hang in there Mike. I'm praying for the curse to release you!
