open file in adobe
file -> save as -> drop down box under the name and selcet .jpg, or rename the file, whatever.jpg.
May work, may not, as i don't know what software you are using.

Microsoft "Picture It" can also change the format as well as resize.

Thank you
Thank you guys for the two suggestions. Will give them a try later. Both using the pull down and reinstalling my 1999 version of picture it.

Avatar help
John I figured out what I was doing wrong. On my old operating system pre- windows xp professional I would save all work to a disk. When I wanted to work on it I would just insert the disk whether it was a floppy or a cd and go to it. XP does not allow me to do that on my computor turning everything into a read only (.PSD) file once something is placed on the disk. I could brings something up from the disk and putz around with it but could never save the work back to the disk, which was the confusing part. I did things this way before because it was easier searching for the work I was doing on just one disk as opposed to looking over an entire folder for a numbered picture or clip art. After someone suggested using PICTURE IT, which i hade a 1999 version of and never reinstalled after converting to XP I once again installed it and voila I was able to work on the pic in my ADOBE program and save and decided to save it to the hard drive, not try saving it back to the disk and then using the PICTURE it I change the photo to JPEG and was successful in uploading my current avatar. What a journey. I hate asking for help or directions like most guys, much to my chagrin. I appreciate all the help from everyone.

Windoze is Insane
i just read this thread, admiittledly i'm a mac head, but i'm also a photographer that's embraced digital imaging for the last 4+ years. what you just had to go through as a workaround is nuts! check to see what bit mode you're using. you very well might be saving them as 16 bit. 16 bit = better picts, much more info - but can't be converted to jpeg. try selecting mode under image and select 8 bit, you should be able to save it as a jpeg then. PSD means photoshop file with many of it's adjustments and corrections sometimes undoable. those files are unreadable to most people on the net. you should never have to revert back to 6 yr old software to be able to post images. imo

Thank you
#^^^^&mont ...just got around to reading your reply to my question. RThank you for the suggestion. I'll look at the "bit" situation and check it out. Love digital photography myself. My drive crashed about 2 1/2 years ago and I lost 200 pics. Now I save them all silly me on backup. Will look at the "bits" though.
