Anyone else get asked to take a Marine fisheries survey?

I got a call on saturday from a group peforming a saltwater marine fisheries survery for Mass. Anyone else get asked to do this or have any idea what its about ? They wanted to know when you fished, what county, boat or beach, bay, inlet, ocean, on and on...

Ok First question. When is the last time you fished in saltwater?
Um, yesterday. Ok, can you give me some details about that trip. Sure, so I gave her what she wanted to know about that one...

Ok,next question.
When was the time you went previously to that trip ?
Um, day before yesterday. can you give me details about that trip...

At which point I stopped her and asked how far back she wanted to go. To which she says Septemer 1 thru november 1.

Now there's no way I can do that, too many trips, to too many places. So she asks me how many days in that 2 month range I think I fished.

Um, lets see. I hurt my back and was out for 5 days, and there was some bad weather in there,, so lets see, conservatively maybe 45 days? Although it was probably a few more than that.

Excuse me, did you say 45 days.
Um ya, 45 days...

Funny thing is they never asked what species I was fishing for, so they had no idea it was bass fishing, or that it was the fall run... And if they asked next month they'd get very different numbers ...

I used to get surveyed a lot when I kept my boat in Montauk. Since I moved to RI, except for the HMS epople, I haven't been surveyed once.

The guy comes to the bridge in Duxbury alot and asks "if he could ask a few questions". I always talk with him and "take the survey".

Surveys

Two years in a row same guy walks up to me on Wasque and ask me the same questions. DIGGIN JIGGIN, how did they get your number and/or have any idea you were a fisherman? Someone sold them your information. How do you like that? Thats like calling Domino and ordering pizza and the kid says your calling from333-444-7777 and I ask how did you know my number? Kid says it on the computor disk. I pay the phone company to have an unlisted number and they sell it to Dominos. Thank ma bell! Seriously though the shops we do business with or someone associated with the shops has to be selling our info. If VISA or another card is doing it then we should get a cut. I can understand some guy pigeonholibng you on the Powder Point Bridge but calling at home and expecting you to recount every trip for the last 60 days. Get real. Pay me and I'll tell you.

Cool I agree whole heartedly

sure i will participate in surveys....
if your willing to pay me....

and its cash on the barrel head
$100.00 per hour or get lost.

i get propositioned for many survey's
not just about fishing ...

i was asked the same thing on saturday
at the breechway in CT....and i said sure
and held out my hand for payment to
her astonishment...no pay ....good day...

i dont like their deceptive attitude and
for all i know they are working for peta.
anyone willing to pay gets 20 more questions
and they always leave in a huff

survey

I've done the survey twice, both face-to-face interviews at the Barnstable Harbor boat ramp. I think the data are used to better understand the economics of fishing in the area..but not sure

Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.

There will be more and more government research projects coming down the line in the nexrt few years. This will be a good thing as the more data we have on the Recreational Fishing Public the more we can back up our claims as to how much we effect our communities etc. We always cry about bad data and we are starting to get heard. More Data means the goverment agencies can manage and represent us in a way much closer to the truth.

now....I have to get back to call and survey this guy I heard about... anyone want to sell me Bill's (E#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&s) number
