Bombs away!!!!!!

Just like on the eastcoast out on the westcoast bombers can be deadly. The problem for us is with the wind normally blowing in your face and heavy surf swell a 6 inch bomber gets lost. Soo for a year now I have been messing with a design that has the shape and action of a bomber but with some weight that dosen't cut down on it's action. The plug is through wired, bills are hand cut.
The plug weighs in at 2 oz yet because of materials used is very bouyant. So what did I get? Well a lure that casts very well, has an awesome surface wake and a tail that really dances.
Can't wait for spring to try this latest version out with real fish swimming around.
The color scheme is one of my plays on a boring to paint red head lure/white body.

Winch, would it be possible to have the lips like the ones on a Rapala Magnum? I bet those things will also be a killer plug for Mackinaw's.

Yes there is a Gary2 influence in the plug. How could there not be? Though I never copied or asked Gary how he did it I am in awe of the man's talent. Once you attempt building them your appeciation of Gary's talent or anyone else that has tackled this type of plug raises even higher. Though there are major differences in weight, through wiring and material used.
But I did not use his sidekick as a model. Instead I used a bombers form and worked from there, This is a third or fourth series of attempts that I have tried to work on and each time major changes have occurred, I see more changes coming on my next batch.
Each early model had draw backs, they swam, but I was no where near the two ounce form I wanted, nor the ability for them to stay on surface as much as possible. These make a huge shoulder wake on the surface which is what I wanted.
The best part about building this type of lure was learning more about different tools that I normally would not use in plug building. If I get a chance today I will show some of the proto's I played with and what I changed to get the body to the design it's in now.

Production?????
You crazy? It's a tinkering plug. Working on getting a desired finished lure, I have many more changes in my mind.
You have to understand Sporty some plugs you build to better yourself, this one is that type of plug. I have learned so much from taking an idea and trying to make a lure to fit my conditions. More important to learn about your tools ability and what changes in design do.
It is a labor intensive lure and my hands have the owies to prove it but my brain has learned a ton.

Here are just a few proto's that I worked with before coming to this design. Each one was tested and changes made in the next series of plugs.
