Cherry and Birch Logs

My father gave me several pieces of white birch and cherry from his house after he had some trees removed from his yard. They are typically 3 to 6 inches in diameter. It's been drying for a little over a year and I figure it should be ready to turn in the spring. I know the birch will be good for making needles and darters, just not sure about the cherry. I assume since it's a hardwood it would also be good for sinking/diving plugs. Just wondering if anyone here has experience with it and what I can do with it. Is it even good for plugs?

Thanks in advance for the input.

I find cherry very nice to work with....just a tad lighter perhaps, but I'll put it up against birch or maple any day when it comes to making needles or darters or deep drivers or anything that's requires to be thin.

BOAT fish do count.

Thanks CS. I had a feeling you'd have the info I was looking for. I want to try a few plugs with no finish except for the clear coat if I can find some interesting grain patterns.

I have a squid plug that bassmaster made for me. He got the wood off a firewood pile in Maine when his brother died (Grampa Old Spook).
He did it in natural to show the grain (oak). If I knew hot to post pics here I would show it to you guys.

The United States Constitution does not exist to grant you rights; those rights are inherent within you. Rather it exists to frame a limited government so that those natural rights can be exercised freely.

1984 was a warning, not a guidebook!

It's time more people spoke up with the truth. Every time we let a leftist lie go uncorrected, the commies get stronger.
