In all honesty give Weight Watchers a shot. I lost 50 lbs doing that before. It teaches you how to portion your meals as well as lets you eat what you want.

With Atkins, I know its part of the Diet....but 1 pound of bacon CAN'T be good for you

no one tells you to eat bacon, dont believe the hype or TV. You can eat all the bacon you want, but you can also eat chicken breast and salads all the time too. It all depends on what will work best for you. No matter what diet you follow, you need to exercise.
If you want atkins:
www.atkins.com
has all you need to know.

Exactly - put some common sense into it. Don't put away a 2 pound T-Bone, have poerk, or chicken, or FISH

You don't need a pound of bacon, but two strips on top of an egg (and after 2 weeks in a low carb pita bread - yum )

I need to go back real soon but right now I'm day 10 or 11 (itsallablurrr) of another "health" improving deed

It was only Sarcasm. I know your not really going to live off a pound of bacon.

I just suggested weight watchers because it worked for both me and my wife, You don't have to purchase any pre-packaged food from them, and because you don't really have to stop eating certain things or only eat certain things.

It really focuses on learning to eat the right portions.......Not Supersizing everything

Exclamation your a wood stove

when you want to keep a house warm with a wood stove...you don't cram it so full of wood that nothing more can fit in...and then let it burn out and then start over again....

what you do is to keep putting a log in to maintain the fire in the stove so that it puts out consistant heat...

your metabolism is quite similar ....so if you keep the fire burning with a small log your burning fuel more efficently....otherwise you just store what you dont need imdiately til later when eating a big meal.
and....
when you starve yourself to loose weight your body says i'm gonna preserve this amount of fat for emergencies and will burn up muscle tissue first before it burns the fat . But when you create more muscle mass then you've increased the proverbial size of your wood stove until your metabolism is working even at rest.

hope this analogy makes sense

Dont eat all sorts of junk food and excersise and you'll lose weight. Common sense really! But im not fat so what do i know. But i wanted to drop a few lbs and just cut back on the junk and went to the gym a few times a week and went from 180-170 since the summer and gained some good muscle. Just use common sense and you'll that weight

I think the most difficult part of dieting is mental. For most people, just eating better and exercise will make loosing weight is pretty easy.

The problem with most fad diets is that you probably don't want to be on them forever. If you can adjust your lifestyle all around, you won't have to fret over an occational lapse in judgement.

I am on the atkins. In my first week I lost 10.5 pounds. After the first 72 hours it gets easier. It has to include some real lifetsyle changes as well. good Luck to everyone that is trying to better themselves some how.

Atkins

yeah it works, but you hafta maintain it.. I lost 30 # or so, on it a couple years ago... all of it came back, plus a couple extra.
my wife is eytalian/portagee, and can cook real good, so I eat, and low carb... WTF is that

Just detoxed off sugar and coffee again... that ain't pretty...
trying for a sensible diet... moderation, that plus as little sugar as possible... amazing how much better you feel without that, or at least lower levels, in your system.

Got to drop some #, if I want to keep hiking the sand.

Arrow just doing that now karl

todays my second day on decaf.....and i feel the no caffiene headache
coming...doctors orders so i have to kick it...

honey is a much better sweetner and has many vitamins and minerals in it
where as sugar has got absolutely nothing. Your wife can bake with honey
but because its a liquid you have to reduce the amount of
liquids in the recipe by 1/2 or 2/3 to get the right consistency.

Karl did u drop all forms of sugar(carbs) or just the white stuff.A good plan is to eliminate white stuff whole milk.breads an sugars. The atkins diet is not a bad plan just watch colesterol levels. Its a way of life for many diabetics.U gotta follow it to the T in the beginnig.then u can soften up.Its all about genetics.my body seems to be most comfortable carryin a few extra lbs.Its a constant battle.Like Katie said i look at a piece of chocalte cake an gain 2 lbs.Its always been that way since I was young.when i played 3 sports an hockey that overlapped all of em.My problem is I still have the same appetite an 1/2 the metabolism.Similar to Karls problem i am Italian.I learned to eat an cook when i was very young.

Get the South Beach Diet book. The food is great. Also, eat your favorite snacks and carbs occasionally after the first month of the diet. Most people trash the diet when they get sick of depriving themselves.
