What rod for Abu 6501?

Gonna get the hang of this yet, so.... what rod do I look at for the his would be for beach and rocks, plugs, tins, etc. from 3/4 to 2.5 oz. maybe some eels? Not a ditch stick. My go to set up has been a Saltheart AllStar 1265-2 with an Okuma Epixor high speed 50. I was thinking 9 footer? I have to be ready for when we do get that casting clinic scheduled.

6501 is the just the lefty version of the 6500. Has 20lb BG on it now, is that what I should practice/learn with when I get comfortable? Could I/should I consider braid, which I like?

Thanks

I have seen that reel on anything from a 7 foot light rod to a 12 foot rocket launcher type. I have seen it with 12 LB mono to 50 LB braid. You should just get the rod based on what you will be doing. the reel will be fine on any of them.

I like 35 LB Cortland Spectron on my 6500 size ABU reels. It will hold 250 to 300 yards of line.

Use mono for training purposes until you get good at casting as braid is EXPENSIVE!!!

If the rod you currently have is somthing you like and can cast everything you mention get the same thing but in a conv model.

Personally I use the Arra 1204 but everyone has a different opinion of the rod they like.

Also buy a Tica (or other good quality inexpensive rod) conv rod because if you dont like conv because the upfront costs are less.

So we'll be getting birds nests together this spring, huh? Mikecc is building me a 1265 with 6" cut from the but to match the calcutta 400 I got for xmas. If your looking for a nine foot and if one piece is an option, I'd look at the batson 1088. Not too expensive and I have one wrapped as a spinner that I really like. It has a slower action than the all star.

Hi Guys, I have the 6500c3 and c4 series. I use them on a 7' St Croix Tide Master and a 10' Tica. I changed from the regular double paddle stock handles to the power handle...way better control.
