Fund Raising-No I'm not asking for $$

I have a 10th grader who informed me that parents and administrators in our district have already planned their senior prom and it will cost about $10,000.00 because they also plan to keep the kids all night for an after prom party so they don't go out and do something stupid. (She didn't go for the suggestion I made about what I did on my prom night: get six friends who didn't have dates, pack into Bres's Torino and head out to Montauk Point, get a case of Olympia, go watch Lipstick at the drive-in, crash at Bres's, and get up and go on a bass/blues charter hungover the next day).

Anyway, she wants to do a fundraiser that isn't run by some other company that takes half the profits. You guys are thinkers. Got any ideas what some energetic 16 year olds can do to raise some cash? There's gotta be something other than bake sales and car wash's and I think the entire East Coast is getting a little tired of Joe Corbi's pizza.
Mind you she's an innocent teenager, so nothing involving street corners or fishnet stockings.

Flea market at their high school. All the parents must have stuff in their house they don't or haven't used in a long time. ( this was my wifes idea, I am not that creative)

Clammer - he said SIXTEEN, not SIXTY

Big Flee market sounds real good and the nice thing is at the school you could also have a simultaneous car wash, plus charge #10 fpr a 3 hour kid sitting so the parents can go off and get some stuff done...

Good stuff, thanks. Clammer, I found out there is a kind of car wash you advertise as a "Topless Carwash" You make so the kids are out of sight and when people come around the corner they find out topless means the kids wash the lower half of your car for free, if you want the top washed it whatever $$ they're charging. Hopefully people remember it was done in good fun and pay up.
Good idea, Katie, but the coupon books the 8th grade sells each year. I like to suggest things the kids will do themselves. I really get PO'd when the school sends home a fund raiser which means we hit up the neighbors (and are then obligated to buy from their kids) or we take the fund raiser into work, which teaches the kids nothing about working for a cause. Car washes, flea markets, getting paid for doing chores for people, babysitting (good one bit $$) they can get their hands dirty a little. I have to figure 50-50 raffles at major events would be pretty good. Also heard of something called a Rocking Chair Rock_A_Thon. Get your sponsors and start rocking. Last one rocking wins a prize.

Yeah I have an idea, have the kids obtain credit cards during their senior year and have them pay their own way.

RAFFLE

Jimbo, get a motorcycle dealer/agency/customizer to put up a harley and raffle tickets off at $100.00 a pop. Dealer covers his cost and kids get the rest. Most of these bike raffles i know of make 10 to 15 thousand profit. Advertise a ticket maximum and son and go for it.
