Scary to think how many of those fish migrate here. Makes me think twice about eating bass.

I would think our water was more polluted 20 or 30 years ago,seems like it is a lack of food.

Several months back I read an article the stated lack of menhaden in the striper's diet was a major contributing factor.The lack of a high protein diet in combination with polluted water has allowed for a weakened immune system which in turn has allowed this disease to reach epidemic proportions.

I'm no scientist but that makes sense to me.

It isn't protien, it's fat. Every animal on this planet measures success by fat. Herrings (bunker in particular) are VERY high in fatty oils and are the best bargan around for effort vs result where bass are concerned.
