Beach Cleanups - Who & Where

This weekend will have MANY clubs and organizations participating in beach cleanups across New England

If you are participating in a Beach Cleanup, please state who and where on this thread. Perhaps we can get some others to join a club for the day and help clean up a little!

I am anticipating cleaning up for the Newport club this weekend...

Thanks,

John

RISAA is doing a bunch of them on Saturday. I'll probably join them at the west wall for at least a little while. They'll also be at Salty Brine beach, somewhere in Warwick and Newport. The details are on thier webiste (I think).

The Connecticut Surfcasters will be running a clean up in Madison, CT, on Saturday at 9 am.

Hmmmm - will need to post some pictures later but Newport sent people to ______________ and ____________ ...

Seriously, met up with 8 or so NCSWFC members over at Easton's Point while a substantial part of the club went elsewhere.

I managed to find a new "tool" on the war on thorn bushes, the Great Tall One, most of the time, was able to climb over them to extract trash...

Otherwise, some of the neighbors were impressed by the effort made by a local fishing club. In addition to cleaning up and just doing the right thing, that kind of PR can go a long way. OTH, there was one silver unfox who seemed less than enthused that a bunch of fishers were cleaning up. She kept chatting but would seem to overlook that we were anglers. And her rat puppy bit me - effin' mutt (no damage, thanks to work gloves)

A sampling of items removed today:

Lobsta Pots - lots of lobster pots...
Tires - found a full set plus Temp Tire
Bottles Galore
2 pairs of shoes
numerous sole inserts oke:
construction debri from the billion dollar homes next to the R.O.W.
Oh, the Great Tall One mentioned something about finding a bikini bottom...

Ed - good seeing you, and the rest of those there - DZ I missed seeing you this morning, the extra 30 minutes sleep was worth missing out on the free Tattoo Plugs and Point Jude Lures

Thanks to all that cleaned up today

If you did clean up today (or very recently), please add your name to this list, who you cleaned for, and what general area...

Thanks!

John

I'd like to thank all who attended the various shoreline cleanups. In Newport we had 20 or so volunteers who filled a dumptruck with litter. Thanks for giving up your personal time and helping give the surf fishing community a favorable presence. Please be persistant and keep our areas clean throughout the season - one cleanup doesn't solve all our problems.
Thanks also to Tattoo Plugs for donating 20 plugs and to Pt Jude Lures for donating tins to everyone. These fine gentlemen couldn't help out due to family/business comittments. But they helped out in a different way. Not that we need an incentive to keep our fishing areas clean. Thanks again Mike Dauphin and Joe Martins.
I've attached a photo of the Clambake Club Right of Way and trash collected there.
