Older Redfiins
I have a few of the older 7" redfins with the textured finish. I can't remember why several of you prefer these over some of the newer ones (except that the older ones clearly have better hooks).
The older versions don't have rattles.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Bump
I would`nt mind hearing some input here as well. I know the texture versus smooth thing and that might allow the paint to last longer.
But I read somewhere that they swim different as well but don`t know why in detail. Maybe heavier older hooks? Plastic different? Design different? Weight?
Anyone?

Well IMO, the old ones cause them to swim a little more turbulent in the water.
In other words, because of the texture, they swim with more movment, and leave more of a trail behind them.
There fore bring more attention to themselves.
New seem to cut the water better, and leave less a trail behind them, bring less attention to them.
Hooks were stronger on the old also.
I hope I said it right? And this is just my observation, and we all know I no crap about this stuff, But I am trying to learn.

Thanks for your replies.
I imagine that most of us upgrade the hooks on the new models anyway-since the quality is not great.
The older textured-finish models do not have bbs (rattle sound) inside. I believe this changed in the early 90s to include the bbs. That style was very productive for me.
As of the newer models 9 (i.e. post 2000-2002 ?), other than the lower quality hooks, I'm hard pressed to notice much difference.
Would love to learn more.
thanks

Hey Frank,
If I can get an old style beater I`m going to cut it open and do a comparison with a newbie.
Mike
Checking the packaging these older ones were assembled in El Salvador.

Swim an old one and swim a new one. The old ones for some reason just seem to swim better. I also prefer the way an older one sits in the water. I think the plastic in the old style maybe less dense, but not sure. Like so many other things (ie whiplash ) I wonder why they ever changed. I am gessing the source of plastic changed, which can make all the difference in the world. I am lucky that I still got a fair amount hanging around.

Appreciate the responses. A comparison sounds like a good idea.

I've had extremely good luck with the new ones, also. It's funny how many old lures seem to have swum better than the new ones. Do they swim better in our opinions, or also in the fishes'?
And no, Frank, I don't think they ever made Redfins in pink.

Frank, you are just down the road from me... I'll trade you some new ones for your old ones Seriously though, if you don't find em to be something you use much, I would give them a loving, caring home
