New GPS Map
I need a new GPS Map for my boat and I was thinking about the Garmin 276C so that I can also use it in my car. I have a separate fish finder, so I just need the GPS Map. Does anyone have any experience with this unit or any comments on the best way to go? Thanks.

I have no experiencde with that unit. I have 2 Garmins now, and IMO they make one of the easiest GPS to use, they are just not good when it come to supporting chart software. They constantly change formats, and then do not suport old stuff

Specialist - thanks for the comments. If I forget about using it in my car, what would you recommend for under $750?

I just bought the 492, it is a color chartplotter that West retails for 899, but I ound it online for under 750. West Marine will price match from the internet, but Garmin has told them they can't on certain units. I think it is more for the bigger units like the 3006 etc. So print up an ad from an online retailer, then go to West, but if they give you a hard time tell them to xreferencethe unit number, cause some they can match, and some they can't. The 492 has the new G2 Bluechart software, and so far it is kicking butt. It has a fast refresh rate, and I can easily see the screen in full on sunlight. If you get it, when you mount it, make sure you tighten the knurled knob on the base as tight as you can get it or the unit will bounce around. It is the knob that allows the upper part of the base to swivel. Once I tightened down that knob some more it has been excellent.

I have had the Garmin 172C for the past 2 seasons. It has been great, I use it with the Blue Charts Chip from Garmin for the maps. This year I added the Garmin GSD21 Fish Finder to the unit.

Garmins are very popular, I have the Raymarine which is great, but older and its just B&W, but IMO it makes no difference, it has great viewability in all light conditions
Shop around.
