Average Fishing Trips
Was thinking about this a little while ago and curious to hear how you guys operate...
When you you hit the suds for your routine fishing excursions...
A) What time do you usually hit the water?
B) How long do you normally stay out?
Does tide and/or moon stage determine the above?
These may be too generic since there can be a variety of happenings that can shorten or lengthen your trips, but I'm talking your average trip out.
My mind has been wandering today after an uneventful few hours last night...but TOTW (time on the water) is what its all about, right...

I always try to time the tides right. Moon could play a factor but only in that it will get me a little more excited to go. It would never cancel a trip. As far as time, it depends who I have going with me. If its one of my non-fishing buddies... then we'll sleep in. If its one of the guys that really enjoys it like me then we'll do the crack of dawn and find the right spot for the particular stage of tide.

I average 2-3hrs ~5 nights a week, usually 9-12a or so and base it around the tide and weather.
I TRY to get a few hours of daylight fishing on the weekend in the boat for fluke, blackfish etc...

Heres another one...How often do your excursions take you to, through or start during the wee hours of the morning (the middle of the night)?

time -- usually an hour BEFORE I think it will be good.
I stay for 3 hrs on week nights, weekends as long as need be.
Usually fish 2-3 nights a week.
Tide DEFINITELY determines when I go. I try VERY hard to go on big tides. on half moons, I still try to get out but am more flexible w/ my better half.

1-2 times a week (slacker, I know)
I fish from 1am to 6am, that way I catch a good portion of the "night" and then the pre-dawn/dawn bite.
Tides and weather do not influence when I fish, they influence where. Based on conditions, I set up a plan of attack, usually 3 locations I hit in the 4-5 hrs I fish.

Last trip.
5-7pm Tried to decide what plugs to take.
730-830 Ran boat to spot, anchored, got ashore.
830-1130 Walked 3 miles on rock, sweat 4 1/2 gallons, caught nothing
1130-1200 Tried to untie my Korkers and climb back into my boat.
12-1Am Ran boat home, left gear in a pile, peeled off sweat drenched clothing, drank 1/2 gallon of lemonade, went to bed.
6AM woke up paralyzed

I pretty much fish tides above all else, moons if I have to pick a marathon week in a month.
When the fishings good I put in the time and then when it slows take a break and get the gear ready for the next push.
I almost never have fished tides "just to fish." If I lived closer and could put in an hr or so every night to watch the fish move I would, but being limited to fishing a 5-7 day stretch (when I was living in MA!) I would always stick to what I knew would produce.

I mainly fish the tides at night, usually stay out 3-4 hours, unless I get a hit on my last cast(usually happens) then I'm there another 3-4 hours.

Recently I've been able to get out about 4-5 times a week and fish 2-3 hours. I'm still learning what locations, tides, wind are best, but I try to hit at least two locations every trip... fortunately I live close to the water.

A) usually when i get there.. my schedule is pretty wacked so I try to balance time (if thats possible) but thats what i like to call it. If i had a planed day it would be for before 3am and fish thru twilight.
B) on a average about 5 hours.
C)No tide doesn't factor when i do plan to go out but i will take into consideration the moon phase... some places were meant to be fished in total darkness.
D) If i understood the question right I'm about 10 - 30 minutes away from weting a line.
Thats how i usually operate and hopefully i will get back into the swing of things and start fishing again.
