The Tug is...

Gone.

CVS will be taking over the tugs spot on the Buzzards Bay rotary soon.

What do you think?

I hate to see the landmark go and it just reaffirms my opinion of cvs

Just Plain Sucks

America the Strip Mall.

Hate to see stuff like that go.
That stuff like this happens.

Talked with a customer of mine today,he was saying how everywhere, is starting to look the same. Pick any exit of any highway, same strip malls over and over. Old houses being knocked down and charachterless boxes being built.
Even the McMansions being built, are cookie cutter fugly.

No wonder, he just passed papers today on his house in town, and is moving to the middle of Maine this weekend, bought an old antique farmhouse, and barn that has been renovated, 15 acres, for a third of what he sold his place here for.. says ya can't even make 10 bucks an hour there, but, no bills, or mortgage, a much lower cost of living, and money in the bank, he don't look worried....
third guy this week from my town I talked to that is doing something similar to this, aome going north, some going south... Cape, and most of Mass., from what I have read, is losing it's lifelong, working class... friggin sad.

I used to tell my kids, when they were little. that that tug was the one their Grandpa ran. There's even a statue of him in the pilothouse. And it's right where he left it , High and Dry! When they told him excitedly about it, he knew who the culprit was. Gonna miss it, reminds me of them when they were very young.

Another cool landmark bites the dust. I wonder who will pick up the old piece of iron. Probably make a good feature at the location of the burned out restaurant. Maybe we can eat breakfast there soon? I miss the joint, only place on the cape that didn't frown when you walked in first thing in the AM and had breakfast. Any idea if they are going to re-open? Nothing has been done, the stools and stuff are still where the firefighters heaved them.

By the way Paul - thanks for the grommets! finally got to the shop.

Actually, the tugboat hasn't been there all that long. I reckon around 20 years, maybe less. The restaurant used to be the Bourne Mill years ago, then when Grandma's went up, they brought in the tugboat as a novelty ice cream stand. You used to get served in what was the galley, and you could walk thru the pilot house and then stand in the bow.

Penner's won't be re-opening anytime soon--if and when the insurance pays off, the owner has a, shall we say, more pressing need for the settlement than re-opening a restaurant he unsuccessfully tried to peddle before that very unfortunate incident involving a match, some acellerant, and a disabled hydrant in front of the building.

Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools, because they have to say something.

mike is right, it has only been there about 20 years. the ice cream was so good. bubble gum ice cream was always my favorite.

i used to love seeing santa clause standing on the bow waving to all the cars driving throught town.

being a town resident, it will definetly leave a void for me. that tug was pretty cool. thanks howie for bringing it. sorry the guy you sold the restaurant to couldn't keep it. instead he had to go in the tank and sell to cvs.
