Gas #$%$#
Cleaned and rebuilt 10 carburetors this weekend. Change your filters and get one if you don't have one!

wtf should I do?
MTC,
Seems to run fine, not sure if I should do anything.I got a 2000 Honda 4 stroke 90 hp on a 2000 Lund aluminum boat.
Should I just change the filter mounted in the engine or do I need to add something special?
Thanks for the advice.

I have a 11 micron filter that I change every 20 hrs until they start looking clean when I check them i'm going to continue to be a little nuts about it.

I would not go over 50 hrs and use a product called Startron from Starbrite with every tank of gas. On the last tank of the season 2X the mix and run your tank low as possible.

Also drain all the gas out of the carbs and the end of the season. Yamahas have nice drain ports on the bottom of the bowls.
I have had to rebuild once each season here in CT since the change a few years back. Its a fairly simple job. Easy to learn to do with the manual, I couldn't stand waiting 6 weeks and paying $375 plus parts and figured it out on my own.

I am a carb casualty due to mixing last years gas with the ethanol gas. Only have a racor fuel/water separator before my 130HP Yamaha SWS II engine. I believe it is 24 micron. I fear I could have the same problem again as I still have the same fuel mixture in my tank. New baby makes for very irregular trips, few and far between. Not a good situation....

Codder, get the Racor 10micron with the clear bowl. That is the same engine I have, and I have rebuilt the carbs twice now. Its pretty easy actually. Its not the mixing of the old and new thats the problem. Its the new gas, the ethanol, that is causing the issues.

MTC, are you seeing problems only with outboards? or are inboards having carb trouble because of the new gas also?
my buddy has twin 454's and only the original stock filters on the boat that he changes once per year. I saw the cartridge and it's pretty small, I told him to change the filters.

That sounds like a big boat. Is his tank made of fiberglass? If it is, he would need to replace it. Best bet would be to make sure the filters are 10 micron filters. You can get filters for a smaller particle size, but they flow less volume/hour.

We take in about 3 boats a day every day now cause of the fuel issues. Youve gotta be proactive with ure fuel..only put in the tank what ure going to use in a short period of time..less than a week. Dont give ure gas a chance to cause issues, a water sep is a necesity.

fuel
Hi,
Have a 19 Bayliner with a 125 Force 1988.
Motor runs fine at throtle but after running awhile it stalls at idle in gear. Have a small fuel filter inside the motor cowling before the carbs.
I also added a water seperator. The $30 one from Boaters World.
The fuel guage doesn't work in the boat, it was reading about 1/4 to an 1/8 th tank today so I gased up. Gas came out after 7 Gallons.
It has a 30 gallon tank. I guess I may have to take a 2 gallon portable with me and run it dry. Any thoughts. Thanks.

I got another 6 gallons in the tank today at home, don't know why the gas came out the filler and not the vent the other day. I even tried to slow the pump. Oh, I have two filters under the cowling. One is an inline and the other is a Force filer under a round screw secured cap.

Well I ran about 50 gallons of ethanol through the boat, and so far no problems.
Blues you must have a clogged or semi clogged vent.
