Great Chart, John...
Way to the right side where it says C3 is a good spot to start.
Toss out towards the Green Can Buoy. Work into the Gut between the two Islands.
Then, working towards the West, that front beach is all rocks of different sizes. From Baseball size to Barn size. As you round that point coming toward the old barges the cove right there has a gravelly sand bottom and Mussels. I don't know if there is enough of the Barges left to stand on but they were like "Bass Stands" years ago.
That opening on the chart is not there any more. They filled that beach with old barges full of stones and the sand has built up well.
Still working along towards the West you will notice how the beach turns from Sand to Gravel and then to Stones and then Boulders. I explain to folks to take note as this is how sand is made. The rocks get ground up smaller and smaller till they turn into sand.
Any way, as the Bluff starts to rise, you are now in front of the Cuttyhunk Fishing Club, if the tide is right you may notice the rusty marks on some of the boulders that show where the Bass Stands used to be.
This entire shore clear along the South Side, to the West End and around the corner up towards the Light House and Mussel Bed are the spots where Large come to eat.
Where you see "Foul" on the Chart are spots to work over hard. There are several Coves on that South Side that harbor fish.
On the South West Bluff, or Point as the current starts to run to the South gives up Large.
On the Light House point that area marked Foul has a Mussel Bed that brings fish in to feed. The big Cove to the right as you stand onm that point is the "Wash Pond Bend" as the Sheep used to be "washed" in the fresh water pond up in the far end of the Salt Pond that is behind the beach. Bob Tilton told me that there 'was' a Herring Run there when he was young but the Bass ate all the Herring and there isn't any more there.
That big sandy cove gives up Large sometimes. I know people who have taken fish well over fifty pounds along there.
Well, that is about it for now. Any questions? Post and will try to help. GB Outdoors fishes that beach from the shore so he can tell you the real "Hot Spots". I fished it from the boat as well.

I was hoping that 1am starts would keep away the crowds. They left last night when the bell rang 11... I hadn't checked the deep night weather but we'll see...

It looks mighty fishy , I'm looking forward to it. I'd like to bring my boat over and be able to cruise the shallows under the moonlight, but not unless I can manage a scouting trip or two. I'd say it's not likely but maybe later during the summer, for next year.

The Alert (Ferry) schedule....
Effective: June 15 - June 30
Saturday > Leaves New Bedford at 9 AM
...............> Leaves CuttyHunk at 3 PM
Sunday > Same as above....
....$12.75 for an adult one wat ticket. You'll need (2) one way tickets...because the "Roundtrip" is just that!!..and unless you want to come back the same day....at 3.... ....well, ya know the drill......
....Ok, so here are the bloo questions of the day ~ ??? ~
...I tried finding out where the Ferry drops us off..and it appears to be in in the Lagoon (Center of Town) I guess??
#1.~...In realistic terms, how long of a walk (timewise) would it be say..from the "C-3" area to the Boulder area thats close to the SouthWest Corner ???...(without fishing of course)..
#2.~...and tidewise, at which point would it be better to start at ??...
...I imagine starting from the "C-3" area and working my way down to the SouthWest corner and then back up <<>>...is going to be my plan...(unless I run into a school of Large along the way and just wear myself out there... )..because it only makes sense to end my trip closer to the Ferry area....in case I have to make a run for it because I got into fish at the last minute... ...unless of course, its just too lengthy timewise, to start at "C-3" and head to the boulders and make it back in time...then I'll have to head straight down toward the corner...and just slowly work my up toward "C-3"....or I could just....fish off the left side until the right side got shallow enough and then fish off the top until the bottom dropped...or I could just....
...but if GB has some suggestions for me... I'm all claws

OK.....in all seriousness....
..I would like to start figuring out my game plan....
...so my one and only question is.....(for now )
.....HOW LONG OF A WALK IS IT FROM THE "C-3" TIP...TO THE SOUTHWEST CORNER ???.....
...there was no scale on the map, and I figured one of you "mojos" might have trekked that already...

O. K. That pile of rocks is about a mile and three quarters long and a Half mile wide as the Crow flys. (Funny that would come to mind. Never seen a Crow out there)
But the shore is ROCKY and not easy to walk but you guys are beach fishermen and are ,I guess, accustomed to going where it is rough going.
I don't know what you guys will have for communication but if you spread out and search then when somebody gets into them maybe you can signal and get together and work on em.

One great item for surf communication is the Motorola Talkabout FRS radios... I'll bring my 3 over but if you have one, bring it...
The most overlooked beauty of those radios is that when you're fishing a fairly crowded stretch of beach and you want to let a select few know that you're on fish and not let the world in on it, just talk via radio. If your flashing your neck light to get their attention, you get every slingin' stick for miles to converge on your spot... The radios are well worth it and are relatively chaep these days...

GB - I was talking more about the lights on the beach in general - I whole heartedly agree about not beeing necessary on Cutty but the radios are nice as they allow people to spread out a bit more...
Yes, I would be very interested in checking out The Club. It's an historic place in the pursuit we've all chosen

I would be interested in checking out the history as well. Looks like it may be a good time to get those Motorolas I was putting them off.
If any one has the ferry info could they post it please? The wheres, whens, hows, and numbers.

You got to do what you got to do to catch fish If that meens pink I'm there only thing is Jane gets mad at me when I bring back her favorite outfit smelling like stripers. I think the pink makes me look like a big squid thats how I can get so close to all those big fish with out spooking them like Bloo does By the way I have a special map of the island for you Bloo with all the best spots

Greg, in addition to the tick spray, maybe a short must have list for those that haven't been out there. I don't own korkers, I'm I in trouble? I also only own neoprene waders, since my wading has before now been limited to cold water periods, am I going to be sweating my arse off all night? What's a reasonable pair of stocking foot or breathable waders run? Or would I be ok getting a cheep set of hip boats for this trip?

Bob I only have neoprene waders and plan on using them. It does get cold on the island in June at night and you should be ok with them. As far as korkers go I do not have a pair and think they would be nice to own but for the amount of shore fishing I do they would not be worth buying. But for all that have them it would be a very good idea to bring them. We will be fishing the shore very slowly as not to miss a single rock so working up a swet should not be a problem.( only when fighting the big one) All of my fishing from shore was done without waders but then I was 18yrs younger and the water was not as cold There are two ways to get to the west end the long way from Canapitsit on the east shore and working your way along the south shore to the pigs or a short walk from the house to the west beach and down the west shore to the Gosnel tower area. If you were to start at Canapitsit say at four you could fish your way to the west end by 12:00 midnight and be there for the best tide. I think this is what most will want to do but for anyone that just wants to hit the west end at the best tide you could go the other way and leave much later and still work the west shore to the pigs by 12:00.

GB I will bring the radios to the shop in the next week or so. I can't make the trip with the shop open.
Thought I might be able to talk da wife into running the shop that weekend and letting me go ,it being my birthday in all.
It did not work

Mike, keep trying bubba. You must have a full cookie jar with the addition and all. We'd love to fish with ya there.
I'll put in a good word, come on it's ya birthday! One overnight trip ain't gonna be so bad on her, besides maybe your dad can help out too.
G.B. that sounds like a plan to me
I got secret weapons planned, I just pray that I can go too.

GBOutdoors!
Best you go for a walk and check your intended path down to the West Side and along the shore to the end of the Island.
If you are planning on walking the Wash Pond Bend I heard that Seth had a big excavator in and cleaned the opening to the West End Pond.
I don't know how wide or deep it is but it deserves checking if you are intending to cross there.
I hear tell the ROAD to the West End is off limits now thanks to one of the young Spaulding's wives. Snobby off Islanders!
That road has been there for over 60 years and now Snobby says it's Private Property!
It would be deserving of them if Lightening were to strike and the Fire Truck got stuck in a mud hole cause they are not maintaining the Private Road!
Anyway, check out the above so you guy's don't end up having to swim across the Pond opening!
