A Fall Morning to Remember

Fishing a boulder field off a beach on the North Shore this morning, started at 5:45 on the last hour of the outgoing - small fish on pretty much every cast, casting AH pencil popper 2-oz version. Small fish imbeds the middle hook deep into the bottom right of my left hand. Worked it out, stung like a b#$t#*d but keep fishing.

When the tide turned, put on a 3.5 AH pencil and able to get extra distance - land a 32-inch fish and there are other seemingly bigger fish out at the end of the cast, but taking one swipe at the plug and if missed it, not coming back. But still getting smaller fish closer in on pretty much every cast.

Realized the tide came in more than I wanted, the rock I was perched on was surrounded by deeper water that I wanted. Start to head in, stumble and take a dip ... water goes down past my belt and sloshing around with water in my boots. Heading off the rocks, but decide to give it one more try.

Move to another area of the boulder field, cast out, similar situation with big fish taking a swipe and if missed, smaller one grabs it. But then a fish better than 40-inches grabs the pencil, I finally work her in, measured her against the leg, above the belt/waist with tail still on ground ... my leg is 38 inches and I had boots and cleats on ... her tail was thick, big broom ... long walk back so revive her and watch her swim away ... awesome sight.

Overall a great day, some stumbles but would do it again in a heartbeat with the exception of the hook in hand and water in waders. Would have wanted to get a weight, but it was awesome.

Thank god for days like this.
