Fishing Till' You Drop!
I know many of us are fishing to near exhaustion right now! Lack of sleep many nights, no sleep on others, walking the beaches for miles on sand and rocks, getting hammered by waves as you stand in it looking to lean back on a big one! The adrenaline seems to get you going each time you head out and hopes run high of going large but as the season draws to an end, do many of you feel as I do that even though you are very enthusiastic to hit the surf, at the same time you can't wait until its over?
Was out again all night last night and only 1 rat to show for it!! Nights like that really wear you down but after a few hours sleep you are more determined than ever to get back out the next night feeling and knowing you are going to stumble onto some large that will make all your efforts worthwhile!!
How do you stay "UP" this time of the year? Right now my feet hurt from rock hopping....my back is almost to the point of being thrown out (yet I still am out there hurling large plugs) my legs are cramping with pain....(I know, I know...drink more water) and I occasionally find myself falling asleep to the point where I am almost drooling while I stand in the wash!!
What physical and mental state are you in at this point in the season?
I am a believer that I need to fish now and I can rest all winter.....so again I will go out and punish myself tonight hoping for a little glory!

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

Like Nike says I just do it. This is basically our "drug" of choice so like any serious addict you just get up and go because you NEED to. Also I'll sleep when I'm dead which is a day I am really not looking forward to so I better pack as much living in while I can.

I guess I'm not that hardcore. I do not enjoy fishing all night. After 2-3 hours I lose the edge. I don't ever leave fish, but usuallyy once a tide lets go so does my fishing.
I'll do an allnighter in a new spot I'm trying to learn once on each tide to try and learn the area and what tide the fish show in a specific spot but on a normal basis I usually only fish about 1/2 of a tide (about 3 hours) a night. But thats usually 5-7 nights a week all season long so it adds up.
I hear what your saying about the end. Plugs to turn, a few rods to wrap and its spring before you know it. When I hang em up, mentally I'm ready to hang em up.

i wore myself out during the derby, fishing 6 nights a week. 4-6 hrs a trip, and longer trips on weekends when i didn't have to work the next day. its not the fishing that wears me out as much as the long walks searching for fish and then going to work the next day.
so many mornings i wake up feeling like i was hit by a truck from all the hoofing and catching from the night before. dragging fish back along a 2-3 mile stretch of beach will wear anyone down.
i wa actually glad when it ended, it meant i could relax and just fish. i took 3 nights off, slept and recovered and have been back at every night since. still catching fish, but not feeling the need to stay out all night. if i feel good i keep fishing, but i know that i have put in my time and got some nice fish....
i still go every night knowing my fish of a life time is waiting behind that rock....

Was into them last night and had to walk away at 12:30 because of a big day at work tonight, hopefully they will be there again tonight cuase if they are I am staying and tomorrow I can call in "well"! (mental health day so to speak)
One clue, if you own any Al Gag's pocket rockets break them out but before you use them remove the feathered tail hook and retie on a 5/0 VMC siwash with a couple long thin saddle hackles and light bucktail then add a dab of crystal flash in Mother of Pearl. OH my gawd!!!!!!!! And Al's new ultra violet light hardened finish can really take a beating. If you can't tie yourself slide a 4 inch white sluggo over the 5/0 almost if not as good.
My new fav plug.

Why even try.........

I'm hearing good things about that stubby. Took Al Gag to get it right.
As far as fishing till you drop - it's really nice to have the experience to know when to quit. My younger nights were a real drain physically - no doze tablets in the glove compartment - you just have to learn that sometimes they don't bite and fish accordingly.
I'm now well rested.

First of all, HI to everyone. Since i fish vicariesly through a local who is complaining about being cold (no problem here) what are you doing to stay warm? Im realy liking what I see on these boards, except the hostility about spot burning. just keep it cool. Ill be planning all winter for my one week trip to fish around Hull with ya on the spring run. Ill keep reading as it makes me smile like a blooming idiot. BW

Did one all nighter this year. They just aren't worth it. Stick with the targeted times like the Gimp said.

Like most people have said..
I rarely fish all night. Most nights I fish 2-4hrs and try and pick my spots as best I can regarding tide and weather and go from there.. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt...

I've been doing this for many years now. I'm like a kid again when I'm headed to the rocks. Like in a little while.
I don't look forward to when it is over. Just one more cast, just one more.
