Cape Cod Canal - High/Low Tide, 7 to noon or noon till sundown? - Striper Talk Striped Bass Fishing, Surfcasting, Boating

Hi All, Will be taking wife to the Canal this Sunday. She wants to bike the trail, I figure I take advantage and bring my fishing gear along. Should I be at the Railroad bridge end or should I be at the Scusset Fish dock? I am not sure if I want to head down early or I should head down say between 10AM and 4 PM.. What do you all think?
I believe high tide is some where between noon and 2PM... Should I fish the incoming or out going tide? I know I am asking for a lot but I have to learn some how.. Thank you for any advice.. have a great day,

This time of year I really don't think high tide/low tide makes a big difference. My personal preference is that I be there for end of east running and a few hours of west running current. Having a bike you'll be able to cover lots of ground so be ready when you see breaking fish/birds working.

Last two mornings have seen outstanding fishing in the east end. Many fish taken and they are feeding on a bumper crop of young scup. This morning the tide went east at 6:20am. If wind goes east strong it could go nutz. Do with this info waht you will. Will they still be there Sunday? Doubtful but you never know. Fish were all sizes.

Suggest Gibbs pencils and Polaris in Pogie and Crippled Herring. Leave the skinz at home.

Saturday: rain. Rain may be heavy at times in the afternoon. Breezy with highs in the mid 50s. East winds 10 to 20 mph, increasing to 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph in the afternoon. Chance of rain 90 percent.

Ok - here's the straight scoop- if your wife is going to just ride the ditch you should start on the end that the wind is blowing AT. For example, if the wind is blowing from the east, start at the West End of the canal. Park on either side near the RR Bridge. If it is windy (and it will be) the cape side of the canal is the least windy. If the wind is blowing from the west start at the Scusset end. Both ends have plenty of pahking.

The reason being - the wind on the canal can stop a biker in his or her tracks and take the enjoyment out of the ride. If you ride into the wind you can easily coast the ride on the return trip.

If you are fishing, it doesn't make much difference. You will be stopping to fish and it gives you a rest with the expectation of a big fish. AM low is on the Scusset or east end - low is at 9:57. Be ther before low. Also what flap said!

Awsome advices, thank you. I got a Trek9500 with no place to put my rod and gears.. Will have to come up with some clever ideas before Sunday. I saw many bikers with these very smart/clever add ons to carry their rods and gears.. I am a Mechanical Engineer by trade and I am always intrigue by all the add-ons I see on bikes at the Canal. I will definitely take all of your advices and put it to good use this Sunday.. I hope I see some of you there.. I will have on a Red Coat with a Cap from Washington D.C.

I was there this morning, after I moved to second spot it was 22 casts and 20 fish all but two on the teaser. Micros. Place is filthy with them even Numbskull could catch these fish(Hi George!!!!!

) Just look for the birds theres only hundreds of them.
