Really Cool Boat docked in Boston today
There is a really cool boat docked in front of the Federal Courthouse in Boston today. It is called "Earthracer". It is a wave piercing racing boat that runs on 100% bio deisel. Anyone else see it?
They are on a trip around the world to break the record in hopefully 65 days using only renewable fuel. They are scheduled to be in Boston thru this weekend. The web site doesn't say where, so I am not sure if they are going to be staying in front of the courthouse. If you are in town it may be worth taking a walk to the waterfront area to see if you can see it. Weather for sat looks good too. I hope links are ok...thier web site is: http://www.earthrace.net/
I have also attached a pic I found.

Where are the rod holders? Kinda cool looking, and I like the bio-diesel thing.

That is cool, especially in light of that, almost similar looking, Star Wars looking craft that suddenly appeared in the stae of Washington recently and the crew wouldn't talk at all about it. Wonder if they'll take it through the canal on the way to Newport?

It is a cool craft but what a silly waste of fuel!!! This is strickly a waste of energy. Bio or not. Driving someplace because they can. Whoop-de-do.

I remember seeing a custom sail boat go through the canal a few years back, it had special sails made out of plastic or something. Wish I could find a link.
Then I saw Erik Claptons sailboat go through the canal this past summer.
That boat looks like something Batman would drive.

Pfft.
They should learn how to do an around the world, here's their rules.
World Powerboat Authority UIM regulations governing the race record state the following:
* The boat must pass through both the Suez and Panama Canals
* The boat can only refuel in ports (no refueling at sea)
* The start / finish line can be determined by the crew
* The crew is otherwise free to determine the route, and can choose an east-west or west-east direction
* The boat must meet certain safety standards
* The boat cannot be longer than 150ft.
This leaves the team great flexibility in many areas, including race route, refuelling options and boat design. Note the requirement to pass through the two canals eliminates the southern ocean route that yachts take.

I actually got another look at it last saturday. Took the kids to the aquarium. I didn't have time to go on board but they would let you. They had free tours going, so if it is coming to a city near you, it may be worth checking out.
