2 beachmaster needles, 1 headlamp, 1 hookhone, burned out an old Calcutta 400, 1 YAMI HPDI fuel pump ($1000), and put a 21 Regulator on a rock beach (gelcoat job). 'bout average year. On the plus side, I only bought 8 plugs, 2 rod blanks, and a set of breathables and boots. Got off easy there.

Geez

I don't feel so bad now after reading your travails.

Two pair of waders
Repair two automatic FWD hubs
One very expensive fly rod falling from truck

Thier is almost a start to a sub culture in this post of ruin and lost fishing gear.

One permanent, scary looking scar on my elbow.

Besides that, a very easy season. No broken gear which is remarkable considering the 75 foot flume ride I took that resulted in that scar.

I think I lost a year or two off my life though in one mad scramble up a near vertical, craggy rock face while retreating from an incoming wave that may well have killed me. I've NEVER simply stopped fishing and walked home thankful to be alive before due to being spooked by a wave. My fishing partner said he'd never seen anyone move that fast before.

A weird year for me. Prior to this one I have an almost flawless safety record. Broke more gear in the past though.

Lesse,
One fall busted lami, two bone chips in each elbow...that still hurt every day.
Cut head, hurt knee so bad I couldn't really walk for a week.
Heabutts at the TFCTFN, dented bumper, 4 wheel so screwy that the Avalanche would start out in 4L every time I started the truck.
Locked Mikey's keys in the Cherokee on the beach during one of the most torrential rain storms I've ever been in.
Grappling on the beach with Mikey led to two permanent scars.
Seagull bite on right hand that got close to gangrenous (not so bad).
All for one keeper 30".
I think my pride is scarred the deepest of anything.
Later,
Rick

One pair of waders, and only a handful of plugs gone. Needlenose pliars lost. Not too bad.

Sept 21 7:05 just thankful to be alive blinded sided by a wave and into the water @ Hazard Ave, drooped my new pole (2 weeks old) VS 300
and bag and swam into the rocks, lucky I was able to get up onto a rock tore my waders. Hired a diver to retrieve or a least try to get my pole after 8 hours he was successful in getting my gear back minus a few plugs.

all in all a good year, but I hurt myself more than my stuff this year.

equiptment - Snapped rod in half with hatchback window driving like an idiot.

personal -
1. touched the side of trailer bearing and burnt the skin of my finger.

2. sliced almost to my knuckle filleting my first tuna (never cut toward yourself)

Not too bad a year.

Killed two Nautil 7500s, one yellow, one black.

My original red Abu 7000 sounds funky.

Half a season old Emblem Pro 5500 started binding.

Anti-reverse went south on a 20 year old 704Z. Easy fix when I get around to it.

Donated about 100 jigs to the Canal gods.

Copied NIB by taking a 4 oz jig to the forehead.

My right elbow was junk by mid-October. Still a littler tender and I haven't made a cast in almost 6 weeks.

All my rods survived the year.

Almost forgot - a nearly busted finger cut short one after hours fishing trip

Funny how felt soles alone work great precisely up until the point they slip out from under you...

Wow! Thought mine lost was bad...

This is my first year back into fishing.. and here are my lost count...

2 rods, 2 saltwater reels, 2 needle fish lures (did not catch anything on them), 5 Kastmaster (from Redtop, lost at the Canal), 4 Top water poppers (from Saltwater Edge, Peter G), Two top water Poppers (from Walmart, lost to Bluefish), and 1 PVC rod holder.

Found: 1 metal Spoon (in a Bluefish I caught), and 1 blue top pencil lure (at the Canal).

Hopefully I do better next year...

The majority of my damage is from friends (who no nothing about fishing) on my boat.

Could you push me off this sand bar turned into pushing off with the butt of a rod and putting my brand new abu 6500 in the water. It never worked right again and it did nothing to get us off the bar.

A brand new yozuri squid lure snapped off. When i asked how he tied it on he said "I just tied a bunch of knots"

Total rats nest out of the replacement abu reel. This is all still the same person...

For me, I lost a couple plugs and spend way too much on new gear but thats about it.

I still take that friend fishing too, I guess it is worth the frustration though b/c we usually laugh so hard we can't stop when we're out there...

Geez again

You know the gear means nothing as opposed to everyones safety. Some of you guys came close this year to being hurt seriously. I dont know if head butts count though at the TFCTFN.

Lost 2 Beachmaster bunker cowboys to bluefish, and an RM Smith to the dreaded Slammer bail slam. No hooks past the barb this year. Got scared for the first time on my kayak on Block Island, confused seas had me off balance all day. Rather yak in a ten ft ground swell than that crap.
