Leaning Post or Bench

Since I hope to upgrade to a CC this spring, I'm curious whether comfort is better with a leaning post type set up or bench over cooler etc. Thanks for the feedback

I like the leaning post as long as there is a foot rest. I'm 5'10, but find myself right in the middle as far as heights go between the average bench or post....and I don't like the individual seat design.

Seems like the divorced guys are looking to build a fleet of CCs for the coming season!

I have a bench seat with a cooler which I use for dry storage, coat, sweatshirt ect. I have extra rear deck space so I bungee a marine cooler to the back of the bench. The back rest slides forward so you can sit facing to the rear for drifting, trolling or whatever.. I always cruise standing so a leaning post may be more useful in that respect.

Bob I have a leaning post and I added stainless clips on the back that I can put a bungy across under it to put a cooler in there. Footrest is a must...I have a slanted footrest on the bottom of my console that you can put your feet up on...really makes it less tiring on your feet when you're on the water for a full day.

i don't like those cooler seats with the flip up backrest. when your leaning on the backrest you can't reach the wheel.

leaning post for rod storage, little cubby/junk drawer under the cusion, and your cooler underneath.good to go.

driving for 2 plus hours to get offshore and trolling all day, whatever,,, you wanna comfy seat to kick back and put your feet up for the ride home.
make sure you can reach the wheel sitting back comfy. use the rods in the leaning post for a backrest
leaning over for 2+ hours gives wickid neck cramps.
those flip down footrests you put in front of the leaning post bang chins all day. and once your in the seat your legs can't reach them anyways.
i like the ones cut into the wheelhouse out of the way.

i like my seat , it has a 33 gallon livewell under it . although i stand up when tearing around ,the seat is nice when livelining and trolling and if i need a better view i will stand on the seat . i took the backrest cushion off and i bungee the bumpers to it when i need the livewell and this year i am giong to add a couple of rocket launchers to it .

Leaning post is great with the footrest on the console and you have room under it to put a cooler too. The swingback setup may be nice for a smaller center console, but on a 19 foot and over, I think a leaning post is the way to go. When cruising you're gonna stand mostly anyway so the knees can take some of the shock. Rodholders in the back of it are nice too.

Todd makes one that has a bait well under it. We got won for my Son for his 18'er for Xmass. Much better request than Xbox or some game that keeps glued to a TV for hours on a nice fishing day...

Get a leaning post with wide seperated legs so you can put a keep-a-alive livewell for your plastics ...

My preference on a center console is for a leaning post because I like to stand while underway. I had one just like the one MTC posted on my Wellcraft and it worked out well.
That said, I've also had the cooler flip back seats and there are advantages to that option as well.
Really comes down to what suits your style of fishing.

ive had both, prefer the leaning post.

if you have a bad back do not go with a cooler seat.

you can put a cooler under the leaning post and get a back rest that inserts into the rod holders on the leaning post. plus depending on how much room is between the cooler seat and the CC you wont have enough room to stand.

I agree with Clamma,

When I had my 20'cc I had nothing. I did have a big igllo 162 with a cushion to sit on for long rides on calm days.

A leaning post can be nice on a rough day but I prefer to stand and white knuckle the wheel.

You just sacrifice too much fishing area to a fixed object. My girlfreind(s) when I had that boat never liked going on it because there was not much place to sit. , perfect.

I kinda like Goose's setup, removeable mini Todd post. Imagine best of both worlds, a leaning post you could put out of the way and only use when you want...

leaning post is the way to go,,, i bought one from arrigoni design was not too pricey,,, it fit the bill perfectly,,, built in foot rest(i never use it) has a built it storage container under the seat also room for a cooler in the back with strps to hold it in,,,also rod holders right behind you for trolling etc.

My 18' CC (GW 180) has a bench seat with a reversible back that can be used as a leaning post when tilted forward or a seat when tilted back. Room for a cooler/gear underneath. One of the nice things about it is when its forward in the leaning post position (where I keep it), it creates a great aft facing bench for crew to watch lines or even fight a fish like a mini fighting chair as the motor well has a rail perfectly placed for your feet. I do a good amount of jigging and its a great spot to sit and jig as well.

Best of both worlds on a small CC.

I have a leaning post on my 23' CC I like it much better than a bench seat, better view, easier to move in and more comfortable in a chop.
