What's a fair profit for 1 of the largest companies in the world? I read that their profit % is in line with many other industries - does anyone know how the oil industry ranks?

Exxon Mobil reports $39.5B annual profit
The oil giant today posted the largest annual profit by a U.S. company -- $39.5 billion -- even as earnings for the last quarter of 2006 declined 4 percent. (AP)

It certainly is a crapload of $. But I thought I read that the oil industries profit % (I guess of sales) is in line (or even less than) many other industries. I'm more concerned with out of line profits.

Because of the price of oil the industry has posted record profits. And they said the increase was because the cost of product to them and they were having a bad time raising the prices.
I still want to drag Cheney to the bar and torture him to tell us what his energy policy really was. OH -- maybe it was to go to Iraq and start a war?
