I saw it and was impressed although I've gotta admit I'm not a fan of Rich and Andy.

I watched it for the second time as it was a rerun from some time ago. Some big fish.

I'm thinking of giving those spoons a try this summer. I thought they said they were trolling 200' of wire to get them down to 30 feet or so. Thats the only drawback... Anyone use these things without wire?

I find Rich and Andy to be amusing... could be a lot worse.

I am going to try them on a downrigger with braid this year. It might not work as well because the performace of big spoons has a lot to do with a soft rod. I might be able to get it to work on a downrigger with an Aftco Roller Troller snap instead of a pinch snap, the roller trollers don't pinch the line, the line runs along a stainless wheel on ball bearings and the tension in picked up on the rod... So the downrigger weight is not directly influencing the spoon... It may or may not work out. Won't know until you try.

No one in my family wants to touch a wire rod anymore(except me)...it is not comfortable to fish with, too much like work.

I had no sound on that show COMCAST comercials were fine , but it was a repete i think big spoons I could use them for a frying pan, I'm a lip reader cause DR. Phil has no sound either cause I don't want to get caught watching him again or OPRHA gawd I hate getting out of work early tying jigs and valuable knowlege on the tube

Anyone catch this weekends' PJ / SoCo Tautog episode on that show? I guess I was home & bored while my GF was still sleeping, so I did!

If these guys are such "expert" anglers... then why do they always need to hire a Charter Boat captain to put them on the fish? (In this case, the venerable Mike Neto-- he of the 65 lb. Bass 2 years ago)... Every week it's a different Charter Captain they hired to make their show happen! Last week it was dragging wire & huge spoons (i.e., not "sportfishing" but winching & usually killing Bass. No talent required except the Captain's...) on the guys Charter boat who makes & sells them!

Have they ever found their own fish on their own boats? (have only seen 5-6 episodes or so?) Have they ever fished without a boat, & without a FF/ scope... & succeeded?

Best part was when Rich T. held up a pair of 2 or 2.5 lb. Togs for the camera... then told us emphatically each would go 6+ lbs!

Saw a bit. Didnt see enough, but I doubt they were off SoCo blackfishing if they were they were off 'gansett... probably further east though

I love seeing 5lb's called a big blackfish.
even the shore sharpies around here regularly get 6-8lb fish.

Just like Bass, if someone says it was a 10lb blackfish or fluke.. as BackBeach would say.. SHOW ME THE SLIP!

Those guys are yahoos. I tried to strike up a conversation last year with Andy at the RISSA show and he ignored me like i wasn't even standing there.

Andy and Rich are both charter captains on their home waters of wetern LI sound, and both know their stuff. The idea is to keep the show interesting by traveling to different spots int he northeast and fishing with different Captains that do things differently than they might do. The Show with Mike Neto was shot while fishing on Brenton reef, why the heck they showed Galilee, the ferries, etc., I don't know.

You guys set high standards. For me anything above 7 is pretty darn nice, 10 is big and 12+ is friggin huge... Last season I only got a couple that crossed the 10 mark and I was thrilled.

As for the show...I like it, I think they are a couple of chatty-Kathy's and the heavy guy's NY accent hurts my ears at times esp when he gets excited but hey...its a TV show, there needs to be some showmanship. As for hiring local charter capt's I think that is probably the best way to showcase what is possible through-out the northeast. Clearly guys from Port Washington are not always going to be experts exactly where and when to drop anchor in Buzzards Bay. They need a guy who is going to put them on fish...that day! A local Charter Capt can do this. I don't think the point of the show is to brag to the world how great of a fishermen they are in any ne location but more to showcase fishing in the northeast in general. Overall, it is reasonably well done, a little over advertised and the banter between them seems a little too much a at times, but it is entertaining for me and better them most shows.

I like shows that show that seabass or Tog fishing can be fun day on the water. Frankly if I see another marlin show on TV this winter I am going to puke.

OTW shows are pretty good too but I don't care for the hosts that much as half the time they are doing that kind of fishing for the first time in their life..(with a guide) I think they need a Curt Goudy/Frank Woolner type of experienced personality and not a kid on the staff. Perhaps Charley Soares or Tim Coleman(?) kind of guy...I don't "know" either of them but they certainly have the fishing experience and writing credenitals (all this is JUST MY opinion, so take it for what it is worth...very little) Also, I don't care for the fresh water stuff at all, and rip right past it. But it might appeal to others.

I only watch fishing shows on DVR's now, best device invented for the TV IMO.

I talked to Neto last year at the Boat show, and he seemed like a great guy. I was able to pick his brain for tecnique, and he was more than willing to share. I really would like to charter with him.

Hmmm... 13.5K divided by 2... They do say $ is the #1 cause of divorces?...

They seem like OK guys so don't want to seem like I'm being too hard on them, but one more key observation I forgot to mention:

If I see them gill- grab & handle one more Bass (or Tog!) that they then pat themselves on the back for releasing... I'll scream!

On the giant Spoon episode, they molested a mid- 40's cow worse than Tommy Lee ever did to Pam Anderson!... then gently kissed it goodbye (after, oh... 1.5- 2 minutes out-of-water seemingly before release)...

Never a need-- esp. on a boat-- to grab gills! (even if you think "plate" is OK!)... indeed I never do so from surf, even at night & in rough conditions. It's just never necessary, unless you're keeping the fish. This paints them as "googs" or "chuckle- heads" more than anything else...

No bogas!... no gaffs!... (unless you're lip- gaffing a cow on the rocks, etc.)... & please no gill- handling on released fish! I believe there ARE ways to limit release mortality greatly, and this is rule # 1!
