Had a great day on sunday when John R and I hooked up with FW and BC to go out on their boat.

We got into some fish up top between Nut I. and Peddock's first thing. I hooked up first and my knot failed... I don't know who did what after that, 'cause I had my early morning shakes as I tried to re-tie my leader, etc. I get a little hyper getting those first fish, tying knots is almost impossible. I think John boated a couple and FW dropped a couple.

Things broke up and the fish were sporadic so we cruised around Quincy Bay a bit and then over towards the airport. Several schools were up around the airport, Deer I. and Spectacle. It went on for a couple hours and we all had a bunch of hookups. BC was hitting them up top, John knocked down a couple double headers on poppers and teaser rigs. I was hitting fish on smoke/clear 6" jerkbaits... the other person in the boat was dropping fish left and right and found a couple bluefish that chomped "her" off (she redeemed herself later by catching most of the bait and nailing a bass on a sabiki rig).

We had fun catching a bunch of nice schoolies and BS'n about this and that. The fish showed pretty well after what I'd heard was a s-l-o-w couple weeks.

At one point, I displayed the pure fishing skill I possess, along with the devasting power of GS plastics. We found some fish along the light pier off the airport and I nailed two fish in a row. After the second fish, I went thru my usual "after fish" gear check... look for loops, check drag, whatever... as the lure dangled in the water, I hear a splash, then the rod is nearly out of my hands... only an extremely skilled professional with highly honed instincts could have hooked and landed such an agressive fish...

I'm just glad I still have my favorite outfit.

At slack tide, the action dropped off, so we headed into one of the rivers to jig up some bait. FW and John were the bait king and queen. BC and I stunk.
I got one small herring and BC got a couple, so at least we were allowed to fish.

FW nailed a herring that started peeling drag and after a few minutes, she brought up a nice "striped" herring on the spoon of her sabiki rig. Then some 19Mako guy shows up and chased the herring away.

Just kidding Tony, it was nice to meet you.

We headed outside with a couple dozen small herring. We ate and BS'd and drifted and my reel started singin' and I nailed a thick 34" bass that was alot of fun. It looked like I had a double header 'cause it had a buddy that followed it much of the way in, but not close enough to give him a bait.

Later we saw a large pogie being abused by a school bass that wasn't quite big enough to eat it. It went on for several minutes... it was like watching the discovery channel... it was cool.

We moved around a little since the tide and wind were not cooperating to give us a good drift. Anchored up one of the outer islands. Things were pretty slow, so we headed back inside to try some areas. We had some bluefish bite our small herring in half and a couple decent runs, but mostly we just enjoyed a fantastic afternoon out on the water.

Thanks again guys... and John, glad we all got some fishing time together. I look forward to doing it again.
