DateFish!!
Finally, after a few years of talking with Saltheart on fishing boards such as these, meeting him at shows, and occasionally along the beach, I finally had the opportunity to fish with Saltheart last night. With a low supply of eels (the local shops were out) and the remnants of TS Gordon coming down, we hit one of my favorite, semi-hidden, kinda-private, "Prime Spots" to toss eels at cruising bass. Wind was SE 10-15, almost in our faces, and gusting higher at times in a fast rain. The tides at this spot were not the best, as mid-tide incoming or outgoing works best but low has held some nice fish in recent weeks. So we decided to give some eels a chance at their freedom.
We were talking about various things while casting eels; fishing gear, rod building, fishing places, "ISPY", and then Salty mentions that he'd like to catch a "Date Fish". Asking for an explanation, he tells me that if gets a nice fish for the table, she'll cook it!!! Sounds like a fair trade and one my wife allows with me (she's a great cook)......
Well three hours later, one hit and no takes for me, Saltheart gets his "DateFish", a very nice, 41-42 inch, 26 pound (weighed ) bass. Nice fish... But I'll let Saltheart tell the rest about catching that fish later, as it was landed by the skin of its teeth, er - uh, lip...
Unfortunately, my new (bleep) FLASHLESS digital camera did not take recognizeable shots... so I'll see if I can something to get them up on the site but it is not likely ... But nice fish!!!...and Mike, thanks for the jigheads...
