Don't want to get my new $600 Van Staal wet, so I'll just turn it over so it's on top.

Has anyone ever seen someone cast a spinner that way? Must be pretty awkward.

I still can't figure out how this happens. If it's his first spinning reel, then he's probable used to seeing the guides on top, but who starts convench. and then switches to spinning? His last rig must have been one of those push button jobs. Or, they are used to using their right hand to reel, and don't know that handles (ok most modern handles) are reversible?

heh heh

what looks like a reel is really a ray gun...

as he uses himself as BAIT for an exterestrial

aquatic species that is hiding on earth.

One time my uncle was checking out my fishing gear and he grabbed my surf rod and said "now I would use it like this" as he turned the reel over to be on top of the rod.
He had never used spinning gear before, but has fished occasionally on a friend's boat and only used conventional gear, so that may explain why poeple do this. Most charters/party boats use convech gear I think.
