Got the OK from the better half to start looking for a boat.

Anyone have any experience with 3A Marine in Hingham? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I bought my Parker 2110 from them and have nothing but praise for them. They're customer service is next to none. If you want to buy a 1999 Parker let me know

The best decision anyone could make.(can you tell I really love boats)..
Don't everlook Proline, they are a great quality boat for
the $$$.

It is tough to find used ones though, I think people hang on to them.

I got lots of good boston spots if needed, and a few of us keep in touch on VHF while out there.

John, thinking about a Maritime Skiff 20-P. I know you like the Sea Craft's and Jones Brothers', but I like the center console w/mini cuddy idea. Any thoughts? Check it out:

SOTB, nice boat! I like that 23' Patriot also. Would be nice with a 140 4stroke. Did you get any final numbers yet? I've had my new boat 4 months and I already want to trade up!!!!

There are a couple of these 20' Maritime Skiffs docked at my Marina, the Pioneer model I think, they look nice, but the beam is so narrow I would imagine you would be tripping constantly, in rough water. I'm pretty sure Ocean House in Charlestown sells them.

John the SeaCraft in that picture is a beauty, looks to be rigged perfectly other than the 2-stroke, lol... What's something like that run? I can imagine it's got one heck of a price tag.......

John, the seacraft looks cool. The mini cuddy is really what is selling me on this boat (MSkiff). I don't know. Is this trying to be the best of both worlds kind of thing? If a cuddy is important enough, should I start looking at different types of boats? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

I've heard good & bad about the new ones and good and bad about the old ones. Fortunately, I've met a few people both online & offline that have done some extensive work on the older gals and have produced some fine craft that rival or better the new ones for less money and more sweatequity. Trayder is in the process of doing a massive rebuild on a 20, Capesams & Billybob have some sweet 23's

Well here's what I think and why I bought the boat I did.
I looked at center consoles, walks, and cuddies..

Center consoles are a great fishing machine. You have access all around the boat, for anchoring, docking, but IMO they tend to be a "wet boat" A decent windshild helps, but if there are more than two people on board.......splash splash....

Cuddies are nice, you stay drier, than console, but its harder to get to the bow for anchoring, clearing lobster trap lines, docking etc.,...

I went for a walk around (21'). It has decent size small cabin for the kids and wife, when they come out. I can put the porta potty in there and with the door there is privacy. Other use, it keeps all my gear totally dry. mounted my radios in there also and they stay real dry. The windshield is wide and wraps around the sides so you stay much drier in rough windy seas. Bimini top keeps the hot sun off, and I got the curtain package to enclose the cockpit if I want ( and I have)

AND,,,THERE IS STILL PLENTY OF ROOM FOR FISHING..

Four rod holders on the gunwales, live well under the seat.
and then you add your extras.

Hope that helps, I did a lot of shopping and like you said looked for the best of both worlds, I went for the WA..

STOB, I got a 21 ft Carolina Skiff wide beam w/ 50 hp Suzuki 4stroke. Big, stable platform to fish from and can cruise into some really skinny water. Also very cheap - $13k boat motor trailer - and burns no gas. The down side is its slow going in 3 ft seas(every afternoon!). I was on a 20 ft ProLine w/200 hp Yamaha last week and was in awe at how fast this boat was in pretty rough conditions. With the flat bottom you have to slow it down or you'll rattle your brains so I stay pretty close to home(Charlestown Breachway). This is THE roughest breachway in RI and this boat handles it no problem, been vertical twice

. The skiff literaly stays right on top of the water and is unsinkable. Great shallow water, close to home, cheap kind of boat. The Maritimes do better in the rough stuff but plan on spending $10k more. 3 more years I'll have the big 23 ft something w/a 225!!!! Good Luck!

You want to talk fast comfortable safe. Gary Corsetti has a 21' or 23' Contender, with the Yamaha 4 stroke. That boat flies, and handles the rough stuff like a dream.

SOTB, check out the new Cape Crafts. Same price range as Maritimes but look like better quality. I know of a dealer in Coventry RI, Lakeview Marine on rt. 3.
