New rod on the way. need advice on selecting a reel for it

saturday i will be getting my new rod. a st. croix 8' triumph spinning rod. its a medium rod rated for 8-17lbs with any advice on reel selection for this rod. i currently have a penn 560 slammer, but i think it may be too much reel for the rod. what ya think?

That Penn might be OK - certainly not too big... Stradic 4000 would be good too

The Spheros would be a great choice.8000 would would be fine. You could go smaller but why limit line capacity to save on miniscule amount
of weight.

I really like the slammer 560, I've used it with a similar rod and it worked just fine.
although I usually pair it up with a 9 footer

I would hang a Shimano Spheros 8000 on it also.

I'm going to vote for the Spheros 8000 too.
I have the 4000 and wished I had the 8000.
