Hey All.
I'm back to check in.

Don't worry Jenn, with my crazy schedule, you may hear from me any time. After 01:00 is not uncommon.

Heat

I agree the heat sux. I have been fighting the fire in Plymouth for the last five days. Today my guys and I are rehabbing in the station. The heat in the burn has been brutal. I can't wait until I can get back to the water and do some fishing.

Have to go. We just sent two trucks to Kingston for a woods fire and we have a crew in Abington. Busy day.

Jenn--Throw on shorts and "booties" wade in on the Enfield side-- cast almost any 3'' Rapala, finess.rooster, etc.--you'll catch smallies 'til your arms fall off. For Real.

Last year I ran my window AC maybe 3 or 4 days all year, this year we are into 30+ days over 90 degrees already...give us a break. I haven't striper fished in 3 weeks and you know what, I'm not all that upset about it and the heat and water temps are why.

Hey Jenn, speaking of 3" baits, how did those little jerks work out for you? I know of some big jerks that hang around on these boards, but they can't catch jack .

GS....pretty good at first (when it was much cooler) but not having as much luck lately... should I try a different approach???? I was using them weighted like you suggested......should I try weightless maybe????

seems like the S-L-O-W S-L-U-M-B-E-R-I-N-G worm has been the ticket lately.....any thoughts?????

They had a thing on PBS tonite all about "underneath Quabbin".....divers went down looking at remnants of the old town and such, and they told the history as they went....it was pretty interesting..........but what was even better was watching all the bass swim by!!! woo hoo!...It's been eons since I have been there......one of these days....

A suggestion on the Tackle to use this time of year... I stopped Using my YO-Zuri's and Rat-l Traps around July... I think fish like people get lazier in the warmer weather... If there is no large school mof bait a fish is just going to let it come right into its face... For this main reason I use bait like cut herring or clam tongues.... just drift it in the current with a 3/4 ounce sinker on a foot and a half mono leader.... The only place I use lures now is when I am sight fishing on long beach walks under birds or in Boston Harbor... Its worked for me now.... I hiot more blues then stripers and the stripers are normally small in between 18 and 23 inches.. Hey thats just my 2 cents

If your fishing just from shore Jenn, this weather is going to make it tough for you to score on larger fish of any species in shallow water, unless you have access to a deep hole with running water. For example in Turner on 2A or 2 near a wide sweeping turn, I used to stop every summer I'd visit a friend up the road and fish the hole below a river coming into that spot, can't remember the name of either. We used to drift earthworms with splitshot into that hole and it would be a trout, smallie, catfish, seemed like something different every cast. Lake fishing for largemouth or smallmouth from shore would be better off after dark, maybe run a jitterbug on top or a colorado blade spinnerbait (like the Strikeking Midnight Special), jig & pig if you have the right structure. Any rocky flat with any deep water nearby might have larger fish up on it after dark. If you have access to any smallie rivers, I'd get me a float tube and beat the heat by setting up a nice drift with a couple vehicles, throw some inline spinners, small spinnerbaits, maybe some small poppers and have some fun with some smaller but scrappie smallies.
