night of firsts
well, last night was somewhat groundbreaking for me. i caught my first striper surfcasting at night, it was the largest one i've gotten from land, and it was my first fish on a needle! it wasn't huge, barely a keeper here in mass waters, but a personal best from the surf. i'm normally a boat guy, fishing from my tin skiff, but last year i started getting into suffcasting and i love it, a whole different vibe than on the boat. unfortunately, after unhooking the fish, which took longer then i would have liked, i was in a rush to get it back in the water, and i dropped my pliers on the beach. i revived the fish and it swam away and i went right back to fishing hoping there was a school passing by. as it turned out that was the only fish of the night. but about twenty minutes later i realized i'd never picked up the pliers, made a thorough search with the headlamp but came up empty. at least they were cheapies, $12.50 at the rissa show. so all in all, not a bad night. looking forward to many more!

Congrats on the fish! And don't worry about the pliers. An offering to the surf gods for that catch, and it won't be the last.

Was the needle your own wood?

I fish alot from my boat which is good , but think catching a fish from shore more exciting because ,at least for me ,Its like the Fish and I are in our natural habitat. man against fish . I dont know if I went a little to far with that analogy, Time for my meds....

Yeah the pliers were just cheap knockoffs of the sea striker billfisher pliers, no big loss(but if anyone knows where i can get another pair i'd love to know). the funny thing is that earlier in the day i was thinking about making a lanyard for them out of telephone cord, oh well. the needle was not made by me, there are so many guys already making great wood that i leave it to them, plus i don't know where i'd find the time. this one was a choopy from sol, but i was also using a blurple salty, the luminescent eyes are so cool! so i'm another needle convert now, my wife thanks you guys for introducing me to yet another type of tackle that i need to buy lots of!

Congrats on the fish, and don't worry about the pliers. I've lost enough pairs that I now carry a small multitool in my plugbag in case my pliers become lost. I never buy expensive pliers, because I keep them in my bag (I hate having something dangling from my neck when casting). Keep up the good work and be glad that it wasn't a plug that you lost.
