2002 COMMERCIAL FLUKE FISHERY TO CLOSE ON AUGUST 28, 2002.
Based on dealer reports, MarineFisheries has projected the total 2002 state commercial fluke quota will be harvested by August 27, 2002. The total commercial fluke fishery quota for 2002 was 938,765 pounds, which is divided between two seasons (January – May and June – December). The commercial fluke fishery will close in state waters as of 0001 hours on Wednesday August 28, 2002. The commercial fishery will re-open again on January 1, 2003. Dealers are reminded that they are prohibited from purchasing fluke directly from fishermen while the fishery is closed in state waters.
