They did a pretty good job listening to suggestions after the first year. Maybe the shore advantage could be knocked down a couple points, but the biggest problem with this thing is they are having the awards ceremony before the fishing is peaking. What is the reason for this, again? Been awhile since I asked, I forgot. I did not attend the party last year, but from the pics on the site, it didn't look like something they couldn't do in November. I mean, some are fishing into November, we can't survive UNDER A TENT the week before Thanksgiving?

Sponsorship--Harpoon is a major sponsor and they want the awards ceremony to coincide with the kick-off of their Octoberfest celebration. Because of the need to compile final standings before the awards, it has to end in mid-September.

Harpoon is a good sponsor.

Indeed boats have an edge but as of now with Jersey at 497 points the boat division average of the ten bass will need to be 50 lbs/bass and likely to increase by cup's end. No way no how.

I heard that the Pats were going to spot Miami 7 points this year and Tiger was not going to be allowed to use his putter any more! The Cup needs to be on a level field or dare I say 2 divisions. It ain't over. Art

I agree, The old Schaffer Cup worked off a 1.2 I think..
33 percent is alot. When we saw that we new we had a chance to win so our team got bigger.

I can't argue with either one. 33% is a big handicap. A 10% bonus for shore would be more like it. Two divisions, like the MV Derby, would be even better.

23 lb lead is safe for now....hopefully this weekend will produce something over 35 from the surf for us

I feel that two divisions would be best but if thee is one division a handi-cap does level the playing field a bit. 1.2 might be the magic "fair" number.

No, it isn't over, not at all. But the field isn't level at 1 to 1 either.

Of course, there is no way to predict what a season is going to do and whether it will play out to favor the surf guy or the boat guy.

The good news is that the OTW guys have been listening to us and have made improvements before the start of each season.

They should do it like a golf handicap using the previous years results then the previous two year results , etc. Assign 1 point per pound. take the best boat score and devide it by the best shore score. that should give you a number like 1 .2 , 1.3 1.1 , etc. that is how the premium for a shore fish should be calculated. you can then adjust that a little by redoing the calculation using 1 years data the second year and 2 years data in the 3rd year , 3 years data in the 4th , etc. eventually you have plenty of data and a shore multiplier that is based in past catches and should be fair to everyone.

beyond that , we need to catch some 50's to replace the 30's to regain the lead!!

if I didnt have to drive to Nomans to catch bass I would have entered a frigging fish. Westport to Sakonett is a wasteland at the moment.
No big bass, fluke or seabass.

You go NIB
23 point lead good for you guys!
wow, if you didn't change teams this year the S-B team might be closer with your fish.
Now doesn't that bother you that you released that 40?

level playing field - that's what OTW was trying to do with the new point system but In my opinion when I first saw it was 1.3 differential, I thought that was too much advantage for the surf fish. 10 percent is more than enough. Even a boat doesn't make it that much easier to land really big fish, it certainly helps but big bass can and are caught from shore pretty readily each year.

One of my issues with the contest is they need a new sponsor that doesn't need the contest to end before my best fishing of the years begins(end of Sept. beginning of Oct. for me).

Good luck Art, catch a cow
