09/23/07 mud hole report

Fished the mudhole aboard Piracy. Total for the day was 2 for 2 on bluefin. 6 for 6 on Bonito and 2 for 2 on albies. We dropped two fish but we never really got to see them

We ran to block yesterday evening and got a slip at paynes while we completed our final checklist, set drags etc. Block Island boat basin is shut down for the season.

Bluefin took juevos rancheros colored daisy chain no bird and a green machine off an orange bird. Most strikes and hook ups came from a black and purple squid bar. We hung around the southern end, lots of floaters (looked like juvi cod) and there were mahi tight to the high fliers ( we got too tied up with making sure our spread was running correctly to get close enough to the fliers for the mahi, friend had been out the previous day and they slammed them tight to the fliers). About a 6 foot Mako was was cruising with its fin about a foot below the surface. Hindsight being 20/20 we should have pitched a bone fillet at it, we had the gear for it.

All in all it was an awesome day, went out with Capt. Vinny and Animal great trip and totally rocked for all three of us being rookies.

Hound we thought of scooping some I mean there were Millions of them floating large enough that the dumpster chickens couldnt pick them up. How would you rig it as a bait? A few boats out there had dropped their anchors on balls and were onto large we just got too caught up on the troll.
