Which lures???

Hey Folks,

I'm going to either Rocky Neck State Park, in East Lyme, CT or Harkness Memorial State Park, Waterford, CT to do some surf casting this weekend.

Wondering what lures (Stripers & Blues) you would recommend as we won't be using live bait.

Are you going during the day? I'd like tins like the 1 ounce Megabait jigs, poppers like the Gags bunker popper or a Chrome Creek Chub (throw on a teaser if the blues are not around), soft plastics like Queen Cocahoe or GS's split tails and stick baits (see above about blues), of something like a Yozuri Crystal Minnow or Mag poppers....

Now at night would be a different story....

What exactly is a "teaser" and how do you rig them?

Essentially, a teaser, sometimes called a dropper, is a second, small, low weight "lure" of some type used to increase chances of hookups. Most often, the teaser is a fly but it can also be a small or light plastic like a Red Gill...

Also, don't be afraid to run teaser through the search feature of the message board....

Hi MtnBrz1, Couple of other lures you might want to throw for blues are Roberts Rangers in either red/white or chartrues green.

As far as the teaser, we make our own and sell them but besides that. We use a dropper fly on 30 lb test Seagar Flourocarbon leader. Split off a barrel swivel at the top, make the fly leader about 14 inches tie one end to barrel and tie fly to other end make a main leader about 30 inches, tie one end to the same barrel swivel as the dropper, at other end of main leader us a small snap, attach lure to snap. Attach Barrel to your main line. Retrieve lure the same as you would if the dropper wasn't there.

The whole illusion is that it looks like the lure is chasing the fly, (or other droppers as JohnR suggested), creating competition making the fish strike at the teaser 1st. Alot of times you will end up with either 2 fish at one time or alot of times the bigger fish will take the fly.

Some other lures for bass and blues are metals like cast master to get it out there if the wind is strong in you face. Just don't forget to use a wire leader if the blues are around.
