My pumpkin therapy
Not that this means much here, but I cut up the two giant pumpkins I grew this year today. The bigger of the two which I guess to be about 430 to 450 #'s had an outer thickness that averaged about 12 inches. Couldn't believe how thick it was. This one had about 70 seeds inside. Many of the seeds are promised. I used a handheld saw to cut into the fruit at the stem. When I couldn't pry the stem out I used a shovel to get the first cut free.

How can you fish and grow pumpkins???
1689# World Record this year, I know that the grower spends about 3 or 4 hours a day playing in the garden during peak season.......

I manage. This year much time was spent on making two new rods. Gas money and fishing expense money went into those toys, and kept me home more. I am working up to retirement in 2 1/2 years when I will probably have five or six pumpkins growing in and around the garden. Its not something you just decide to do and it all works out. One has to make mistakes in order to learn about getting big fruit. Needless to say this year I learned a chitload..

Cool!!!
I remember when these guys started, we all thought 500 was big. It's certainly not as easy as throwing some pumpkin seeds in the ground and harvesting them.

I knew a young boy , maybe less than 10 years old , who adopted a watermelon that grew huge from a spit out seed near a kitchen window. the thing got huge. So the next year , he planted a pumkin in the same spot and the pumkin got huge and won at some pumpkin contest like a town fair or whatever.
my theory is that for 100 years (older house) someone dumped compostable stuff from the kitchen window and the soil was so rich that anything that grew there was bound to be good.
now I know zero about growing pumkins more than a foot across but its my theory and the huge watermellon the first year and the huge pumkin the second year by a kid with zero growing experience tells me it was the spot where he grew it.
