Advice on large plugs from a boat

What do some of you use as plugs, (topwater or divers), in the large size, that your using on the north shore of Long Island Sound ?
Is it "usually" true that big lures, catch big fish ?

I have not fished LI sound in 20+ years but what works works just about everyplace. If you are looking for larger bass and big blues I would try a large plastic deep diver like: (on braid or wire(if you have to)

These stand up to the rigors of big bluefish.

If smaller fish (or lighter tackle is preferred) then try the yozuri deep divers.

These work well for everything I found. Last season I caught Bass, Blues Albies, Bones, Spanish mac, King Mac and a football tuna on the same day on the same plug!


Some of the custom wood plugs that are made by the guys here will also work well for larger bass. I have had great success trolling a big Pike on wire too. It out-fished everything else on some days. Don't forget the almighty tube and the buck tail.

i fish the mann's here in boston on braid, and do really really well. especially when nothing else is working, its my go-to to put fish in the boat. when livebait is not an option.
