Pressure Treated ...

This stuff has been around for some time now ,, Ya hear this one ??. PT eats metal ... If You frame with metal galvy stud and use PT with it ,, in time, it will , rot out the metal . Also Fasteners.. It eats Electro plated galvy nails (not the hot dipped)... Metal joyce hangers.. and finds aluminum flashing especially delicous ,,. We've been fastening with epoxy coated screws .. local building inspector gave us the heads up ... first I've heard of it ..

Too bad it can't get rid of your seal problems too.I wonder what chemicals that are in it are causing this.

Yep. It devours EP. At the same time using EP's in hangers has the same effect.

Yep, been like that a few years now.
They had to stop using the stuff with arsenic in it(not good for humans obviously) and now use some kind of cuprious oxide to stop the bugs.
If you can't use alluminum, I guess ya have to use lead flashing
Are you gonna start making plug out of PT Tagger?

That's why stainless decking screws have been the norm for securing PT decking for well over a decade.

Most folks these days are using Mahog, treated of course with something like Messmer's or similar protectant.Or they use Ipe and simply not deal with PT or finishes anymore.

From High School chemistry, which I flunked, copper has a coupla loose ions that just hate most other metals. Pt has more copper than a penny.

Bingo Jake/Fred ... it has famaldihide and some other nasty stuff but they said the main culprit was the copper .. I remember when it first came out ... Yes I was there .. When we hand nailed everything.. I remember they said no table tops were to be made of it (picnick),, keep away from food .. I thing the brand name was wolmanized ... something like that ..

Using pt for facia? Its really only good for decking as it really can't take any type of finish for at least a year after installation even when used as decking. You should be using redwood or cedar(or mahog$$$) for any type of exterior trim, back primed with an oil-based primer. You just don't(can't) use pt as it will not except paint.

But yea, stainless anything when dealing with pt as it is the "norm".
