Mike's custom plugs

Anybody got any feedback on them. Just looking around on the net and found the site. Nice looking plugs and seem readily available for those looking for wood.

Seems like a young guy who just started building (and was asking finishing questions as recently as 4/07, http://www.striped-bass.com/Stripert...ad.php?t=40412) and is now using the site to get his name out there. Stuff might be good, but going from rank amateur to commercial builder in less than a year and using the site to generate sales seems suspect. Is he a sponsor?

I've heard nothing but good things about his plugs from fishermen and builders alike. This "rank amateur" has done his homework

That is good that you have heard good things
It's up to potential customers to also do their homework.
In my experience, I find fish are pretty simple beings, they wouldn't know the difference between most plugs, not that that has anything to do with this thread.

If his plugs work well, he'll sell; if not he'll be out of business. Time will tell.

Numby - I think this guy has been a round a little bit. So while, we cordially ask for nospam postings I do think this is someone that's been building nice stuff for a while. He was at Plugfest last year if I recall (right Mike??)

I like the looks of a few of them. Certainly pretty plugs. The painted lips are cool. Any reviews on durability?

More power to him, everybody has to start somewhere. The world can use more good plugs (and less spam). Caveat emptor.

it is really nice to have all these choices in custom wood. if the builder is having fun turning them and the buyers are having fun fishing them, more power to 'em.

nowadays, i think half the fun of buying plugs is to see how relative unknowns swim.

That's only because you have PMs turned off - be nice or I'll turn em on and add sound, or better yet Bassmaster's face will popup when you get a message

Skitterpop and others concerned with spam. I assure you that I have no affiliation with Mike or any other custom builder. If you need an introduction, my name is Joel Swan. If you want to meet me come down to the saltwater edge show and say Hi. I'll be the guy giving the presentation on kayak fishing with hobies. I've also written a good number of articles for OTW and used to be the kayak columnist for that mag as well. I don't have many posts on this site - which I'm not sure why that matters anyway, But have been registered for a long time on this site. I've been a hard core fisherman for a long time. I'm more active on kayak fishing boards since that is what I primarily do but I know there is more knowledge on these boards when it comes to wooden plugs, which is why I posted the question here. In all honesty, I don't currently need any wooden plugs. I have more beachmasters than many, enough to last me half a lifetime of fishing and have many left from habs and tattoo as well as other misc builders. I just came across this guys site and was interested in what people thought since I never hear any discussion on them. I know people get suspicious when they see a post from a new name or somebody that doesn't post much but I assure you that the post was genuine and not a plug or promo for anybody.

Sometimes the Winter Trigger Finger is a little faster than needs be. No harm no foul though. The guys that questioned it are all good guys and have frequently seen instances where it was not on the up & up. We get a lot of it Again, no biggie...

I know numbskull. That is exactly what I will be thinking when I buy those jointed bigfish swimmers or tattoo everlasting eels or both to troll behind the yak this spring. And when I buy some BM dannies if they ever show up and when I buy a few more afterhours large needles that I forgot I need- oh yea did I mention I don't need any wooden plugs

This thread gave me the incentive to get off my a$$ and clean some gear. Laying out the BM collection, it's not as big as I remember. Especially thinking back to some of the collections I've seen here but I'm not complaining. Those 2 dannies look lonely don't they?

Not to have any wooden plugs is a tad concerning.
