Winter Schoolies

With snow swirling outside my window I get thinking, how many of you have gotten or chased some winter bass? I got a larger schoolie (oxymoron I guess) just before the new year on the last time I went out. Anyone else giving chase over the winter? I know a lot say why bother, but I like to take an occasional shot...

There's a good article on winter schoolie fishing in this month's New Jersey Angler magazine if you can find one up here.

Paliaso and I were out on Saturday. Nada.
Did spend $40 on shiners though (they were really nice ones)
Nice to get out, though.
Later,
Rick

Good article in the fisherman this week on the topic.

I went out yesterday, got 6 bass to about 26" from shore. It was too nice out yesterday to stay home!

Winter may not be all about schoolies.
There was a 50#er caught in the Thames yesterday.

I have gone out a couple times down here for 1/2 hour or so each. Breaks up the winter.

No, no, no. we’re 30… 30, three zero.

On the water has a book out I believe it's called "New England Stripers". There is an article in there about fishing the providence river in the winter. According to the article you're right you're chances are better at night and also the day after a big storm. I've fished there last year a couple times with no luck but guys do catch fish there. Just watch out over there I wouldn't fish alone or bring good gear. If you'd like some more info feel free to pm me. Good luck!

the thames is the spot caught a 30 inch striper saturday and a a bunch of schoolies its my first year and i'm loving it. The striper in the pic is the fish. It was cold out there but it was fun catching fish in the dead of winter on light tackle.

There is a spot, I go to that has winter holdovers, I have gotten keepers in those months.

Be encouraging, not discouraging
