What you can't spare a herring!!!!

I sure wish I knew what happened to the herring runs!! Are there any Mass runs that still let you net a few?? It really is pretty sad in such a few short years herring have become so scarce. Looks like another year of macs...

I was on the herring commission in Pembroke and we failed to bring them back even with a lot of hard winter work and restockings from Bourne.

A real old timer said the herring are hanging out with the smelt at an undisclosed location. Well, maybe the pogies will have a good year and the fish meal industry can stage a come back.. Geez.

PS.. I know lots of guys who no where to SNEAK into the runs to poach a few. I guess they the guys who are owed fish.... (maggots)

PS... Does anyone know if herring spawn more than once or just die like a salmon??

There's a complete herring possession ban in Mass until the end of this year, at minimum and I would say the chances of it being extended are excellent.

At least some herring "drop back" into the ocean after they spawn.

Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools, because they have to say something.
