Weekend Plans?
Last few fixes are on the horizon, until I start heading the boat south towards RI and then the Thames River. I'm headed out tomorrow before the big chill and I'm not sure where to head. Anyone been out lately? I'm thinking about Plymouth, even though I hate that ramp, not so much the ramp...just no place to put your boat once your in or while waiting to pull out.
The last few times out of Scituate have been a big disappointment, so maybe further south. How about you Steve, any word from the Plymouth area? Anyone with intimate first hand knowledge, want to personally come out and show me where they are ? The other reason Plymouth might be better, is the wind is going to be honking again, talking up to 35 tomorrow. High southwest winds aren't too bad, my problem is finding fish.
Anyone game?

Fixing a leak over the bay window in my living room, provided the weather cooperates. It sucks because the house isn't even a year old and it was lousy work by the builder that has since gone out of business ... Patch the holes in the grass. Spend some time with the family. Optimize my home network for my latest venture ...
Maybe, just maybe, get out for a couple hours this weekend...

my plans for the week ahead:
I hope to sneak out a few hours tonight, and maybe take the kids fishing sunset along the beach tomorrow...(prob hit a few blues) then go out to dinner somewhere along the RI/CT shore
Sunday...probably fix up my yard for fall and buy/plant a few trees that should keep me busy all day. Maybe clean out the mess in my truck.
Monday the kids are off perhaps we can hit the beach for a dawn raid if I am not to tired.
Wed or Thu (weather depending) BI overnighter go over on the 5 return 8 the next morning then go to work....I am only good for 1 of these per week. This will be an important trip for me to establish exactly where the fish are and scope out the bait situation.
Friday-Sunday...BI with family...I should be able to break away for a good part of the night after they are sleeping. The kids want to catch some squid at night off the dock like last year. It was a blast for them...ink everywhere! (hope they are there) Fresh caught calimari is one of their favorite apps'.

The Ditch Saturday Monday depends on the weather maybe cod or a road trip on the Cape. GS rumor mill has bass around Scortens to Barnstable Harbor just a short ride from the Sandwich Basin Ramp.

Not alone, since that 8 mile run could be a wet ride tomorrow, especially with 35-40 mph winds expected. I think it's Plymouth for me tomorrow, so if anyone is interested let me know by phone/email. Probably shoot to be launching just before sunup and depending on the severity of the front, call it quits early pm. If I can talk my way out of a 2 hour recon mission, might even head over this afternoon for a looksee.

Bob, I'm not sure when you're going out, I think you may be out today. I'll post anyways.
Unfortunately, I'm a bit disorganized as my wife was in a fairly serious car accident Tuesday night. She got banged up a little, but is ok, though very sore. She was at a work function late and my daughter and I went to bed. The phone rang at 2:30am and I woke up and saw she wasn't there. I got a knot in my gut... 2:30am calls are not often good news. The accident was at around 10pm... why they waited over 4 hours to call, I don't know. I'm just glad she's OK. After seeing the car, I feel that the seat belt saved her life.
Wednesday, I was supposed to have a day off to go fishing. Obviously, I cancelled that, but my boss is cool and he told me to go ahead and take Thursday too. So, I got out for awhile.
There was some decent action on Boston Harbor by the Long Island bridge and down the south side of Long Isl. There was a massive flock of birds working, but the fish were skittish, popping up here and there. You could see the birds get excitable and group up, but the fish were doin' a hit and run thing, so there was no point chasing. The birds were everywhere, so I'd just wait for a pod to pop up by me. I didn't see anyone hook up for the first hour or so.
Things started to pick up for the boats that hung around. The fish moved as the tide started to crank and we started to hook up. I didn't notice any pluggers getting anything. Some fly-guys were hooking up and I was picking up fish on jerky baits. The fish were movin' though. I was letting the bulk of the boats stay with the bigger group of fish and I worked a couple of smaller groups that were popping up. I'm sure some of the other folks had to pick up some fish, but I just didn't see it. I caught 7 or 8, including two keepers and lost several others... time to move back up to a bit heavier rods cause I've been losing too many fish lately. I've gone to lighter tackle and I must not be getting good hook penetration.
Actually, my biggest fish came at the worst time. I hooked up on the fish and suddenly there were fish cruising all around my boat. Then all at once, the ocean exploded. It was really cool. I was able to really watch 'em for a couple minutes cause my fish was just runnin' deep. By the time I had my fish beat and released, the school was 100 yards away.
I think I could've done much better, but I'm too cautious approaching the breaking fish. I don't want to put them down, so I stop short and throw down the trolling motor. But the fish move so fast, I sometimes don't get many good casts into them. As things seemed to break up, I started cruising and saw a nice group of frenzied birds well away from the group of boats. Fish breakin' like crazy. Stopped way too short of them and never got a fish. I know to watch for patterns and direction and all, but I needed to get a fish from that school... bad job, I kept yelling at myself. I'm so worried about getting 3 fish from a school, that sometimes I don't get the first one... does that make sense?
Not staggering numbers I know, but it was decent action for a couple hours. The fish weren't easy to get, but they were active for several hours, so you were always seeing fish and birds.
Lot a boats out there for a Thursday in October... I guess the good forecast probably was part of that.
Good luck this weekend to everyone... I'll be taking care of my wife, wishing the winds were somewhere under 30 knots, and shopping for a new car.

John, now you know why he went out of business.
Just went through some fishing stuff my buddy gave to me when he moved out of his house and have been refitting plugs with some trebles.
Gonna go out tonight maybe.

Thanks for the report SM, sorry about the car accident, but happy to hear Karen's ok. I really don't like the other boaters in Boston, except for FW/BC in case theyr'e back reading this , it get's too nutty up there on weekends. I think I'll go to Plymouth for a change of pace, since I've yet to go out of there this year. Maybe they haven't got the perimeter of the power plant too closed off, so I can get a few casts into the discharge.

Glad she's all right Schoolie. Scary stuff.
Smokey and I have decided to give the Ditch one more chance to yield a 50 to us this season. Usually by this time we move to RI but with all the reports of great fishing at Race Point and Truro , we figure some big gals will be swimming through the canal tonight.
I may also sail my boat up to Barrington to be hauled on Sunday. Getting busy and I think its best to get that out of the way.

SM,
I'm sorry to hear about your lady. Glad she is okay. Cars don't scare me, it's the idiots in the cars that scare me. As if cars weren't dangerous enough, now you have these freaks throwing dogs into traffic and shooting each other over fenderbenders.
