long day yesterday
i am an idiot
got home this am about 5:30, not from fishing though
long story short since i am typing with my left index finger
at 5:50 pm yesterday i accidently shot an 1-1/2" cabinet staple all the way into my hand entrapping the tendon for the index finger maybe into bone but not likely, buried all the way in, i tried to get it out with an awl at home but gave up when i pulled it about 1/8" and had resistance and noticed i could not straighten my finger.
smooth move by me as the gun slipped off the side and hit my hand which should not have been in the way
morton hospital tok a long time, finally took xray and then said i need hand surgeon they gave me iv antibiotics and tried to push morphine on me, i said no morphine.
i said just pull it out of me, they wanted to wait till the next day , i said no
they call boston and get me transfered to tufts
finally get there after 11
wait and wait, finally the ortho guy who had to come in from home for another case also gets to me, more xray, a local nerve block which i said i didn't need but at that point i was not arguing.
it's out by 3:30 or 4 am finally
i brought a stick of the same staple to show what it was, he was very glad i did that. he shows it to me and asks if i want it, i say no thanks, you keep it i have plenty.
my brother came to pick us up and arrived as we walked out, nothing to eat since lunch, but i have enough reserves
gotta go back tom. and see hand clinic just to be sure all is well
i won't be doing that again any time soon
it's my right hand so i'm useless with a splint on it
don't ever shoot yourself with a pneumatic air gun, it sucks

I'm glad all turned out for the better Bruce.I was thinking you should of called Ryan and he could of walked you through the pulling the staple out and sewing your hand back up process.

when I was in art school a kid was sitting on a stool... dont ask me how.. but somehow he shot the same staple that bruce was using through his scrotum and into the stool.... basically stapling his balls to the stool. The funny thing about this event was that it didnt hurt him in the slightest.. hes balls were fine and untouched. I think they used a pair of needlenosed plyers and yanked the sucker out....
Then to add isult to injury the dr. 'busted his balls' so to speak and told him that the wound was so bad that he would need to staple it as opposed to stiches... he was only kidding..

Thing that make you swear ultrasonically. Yikes. I wacked a chisel once and a shard 1" long buried itself in my thumb. That was good for 7 hours in the hospital and I was the one who finally got it out. I knew an air tool salesman who was bragging how safe a framing gun was and promptly shot himself through the wrist. He didn't say fudge.

Pulling all nighter's fishing is one thing, but this kind of all nighter you can do without....friend of mine shot himself in the knee cap with a 16 penny spike...lock his knee/leg up bent in an L...he was working alone.crawled to his truck and got to the end of the road where he layed on his horn till someone showed up..in the hospital they had nothing that would get it out, so they hit up the maintance shop and got a pr. of visegrips and a large hammer...clamped on the grips and banged the nail upwards and out...he said if he knew they were going to do that he could have done that on the job site:

That sucks, Bruce. I can't top that one, fortunately, but have some near misses and the scars from lots of other close encounters. I see so many in the trades missing digits...glad I don't drink....
And now I'm off to work. The compressor will be fired up within 15 minutes.....

A contractor came into the ER the other day with a large nail in his ring and middle finger. Shot right through them both. Looked nasty but the Dr. just twisted it right out with some local nerve block for pain.

i shot a nail through door header and clear across my under construction living room. just missed the french door being hung and the carpenter doing the hanging. I searched all over the place for it and never did find it.
I wonder if its in his head like this guy - http://www.usatoday.com/news/offbeat...il-skull_x.htm
