Penn 4500ss drag

Yesterday I had a 4500ss lose all drag. It was ok last trip and now no matter how much you crank the drag down you can strip line off the spool by hand. The spring is ok in the knob, I tried cleaning the teflon washer inside to see if it made a difference and nada. Any ideas?

Your spool is not fully seated. Only thing I can think of.

2 washers in the spool, fiber washer, metal washer, retaining ring..

If you crank your drag down often you can compress/wear out the teflon washer that sits on the top of the clicker gear.... I had mine slip due to the washer being worn out but not to the point of being able to freespool it by hand on lock down....

One problem i had with the 6500 was that washer would often stick to the bottom of a spool when i changed them, so if it was working fine one outing and you took the spool off and now its not working that washer might not be there...

Make sure one of the metal washers hasn't made a groove in the shaft and caught it.
