Children in Sports?
I am having mixed feelings about putting my kids in as many sports as I did. Growing up I played basketball, soccer, baseball and hockey. Played hockey year round for most of my life. My brother also did the same. We generally spent weekends running from field to rink. My kids are 5 and 2 both boys. My parents are pushing me to get them into everything too. My 5 year old played T-Ball this year which was fun. I however want to spend time with them doing other activities like fishing, hiking, hunting and general outdoor sports. Is it wrong to not give them what I had? Fall over sand beach fishing is coming up and I chose that over soccer is that wrong?

Nope. You did right. And it is your call. No one else's. Consider this; they're 5 and 2 now. You hike, fish, spend quality time with them, and the lovely Starfish as well. You will miss these times when they are 11 and 8, and you are driving here and there from field to rink, or whatever. Even ith the older son; you are not putting him at a disadvantage by not having him skate/play now. (unless you want to be one of these idiot parents that project their offspring for Division 1 or even pro material from the age of 4..... )

Scouts....great way to unplug them and get them outside....Fishing , Hiking, Camping, Rifles, Archery....also lots built around Sports as we promote Fitness as one of our Core Values.
And when they get into Boy scouts great way to foster Leadership abilities.
PM me if you want more info.....Been a leader going on 9 years now.

More along the lines of the 5 year old. Although the 2 1/2 year old hits pretty well and can almost climb up a mountain.
Thanks for the advice guys. Kev, thanks for the offer.
