Anyone ever spun yellow/hard pine for lures? Hows it finish and any problems?
I handcarved and turned some from wood salvaged from an Atrium sun room exterior door that I think was yellow pine.. The resin lines are very hard and thick, the soft wood very soft. The wood tended to be heavy. Finished ok. Center drilling was problematic, the hard resin lines deflected the drill into the softer wood. Tool dulling and ridging might be an issue with production work as well, but I didn't make enough to tell. Since I'm not positive what the wood was, take this all with a grain of salt.

If it is Southern Yellow Pine it probably won't be very good. Most PT lumber is SYP. It is similar to fir as far as grain goes, very defined growth rings.
