Booger, give me a call if you can't get someone closer to you within a couple weeks. Would be a haul for me, but will do it if you can't get someone. Just starting a bathroom remodel next week. Bay window, not a bow with roof kit, right?

Hey Ross I never thought of you. I'd rather pay someone on here for sure. It's a existing bay window that has two holes in the bottom sill and side from decay and a failed center window section seal. Has an existing roof on it, and the original window never had proper support under it they just blocked it with plywood and painted it so the window dropped. I found a Jeld wen at Grossmans for short $ good nuff for getting us out of here in the spring. Not sure if the roof can stay attached to the house or not while the window is removed. Done plenty of regular casement and double hung windows but never done anything this big.
I can't do it myself because it's so big and I don't have enough ladders to get it in place etc. Just needs to be made weathertight in the exterior. No gots your number or I'd call you right now  |

Yes right now I do, Ross is willing to do it but it's quite a hike for him so his suggestion was to try and find someone closer.

Grossmans Single Hung Bay window?
Salty just a heads up bud. I put one of those in a rental property i was living at and i am a carpenter.Landlords would not spend big money on decent windows. They are not worth the money you spend on em. You would be better off going to one of the big box stores. it literally cant hold itself together, very poor construction. i put 2" foam board insulation underneath and stuffed the cavity inside roof i built over it. Turnbuckles with wire thru extrusion to bottom of window to support it. The way i do all bay windows.It was falling apart when i moved out. Very drafty and the window hardware sucks. I have installed at least 50 bays and bows with no problem. if you have not already purchased it i highly reccomend finding a better window even if you are gonna try and sell the place in the spring. If you do put it in make sure your carpenter does some re-enforcment before it goes in. Trust me bud you will regret it

If you guys saw how many people I've called that haven't bothered to call back it would make you sick. I would have thought guys would have jumped at the opportunity for work. I guess not. I think found a local guy tonite he's supposed to come over to see it on Friday or Saturday. Ross and Ian thanks for your help.
Bought a Modernview bay at Koopmans $1306 it looks like a decent window and is custom sized to fit in the existing rough opening so it's built to spec.

You would be better off with a guy who has a good reputation, that will stand behind his work and be there next year if you have a problem, of course those guys are busy, can't come tomorrow, don't want to do a job that's just good enough to get you thru the winter and won't put in the cheap stuff you buy at home dumpo.
Just remember next year when there is a new owner and some contractor did a cheap job just because that was all you wanted to invest and it has issues, they will say the contractor did a bad job, not the previous owner got a cheap job like he wanted.

yea but of all the local guys I've hunted down and called THIS was the only guy who called me back to come and do the job. Next year I don't care I'll hopefully be LONG gone. Anything is better than what's there now |

naa if I wanted to do that I'd have my forklift moved over there on a ramp truck. Even though I don't have the money to do this it has to be done and I'd honestly rather pay someone else that knows what they're doing to do this.

no need for a bobcat or forklift
just use pump staging and pump that bad larry up to height and slide it in. that is the best way to get a bay/bow up to height. It also gives a work platform to trim it out and repair the siding around the window. If things dont work out pm me. im licenensed and insured and have all the neccassary equipment. ask the contactor about using turnbuckles to support it from the top under the roof/cap. It makes for a sharp looking job without the ugly(imo)brackets underneath which really dont work to well unless installed correctly. it isnt just simply screwing them to the house after the window is installed. good luck salty.

Houston WE HAVE WINDOW 
They got the old one out today and new one is about 75% in they just have to finish the outside stuff. I just got done stuffing insulation and wow what a difference. Ended up costing me $1500 for the window with screens and don't know on the labor/extras yet. |
