CCC attacks -

Not sure if this has been discussed here, but this is from another thread today regarding recent attacks at the CCC - just an FYI:

Ahoy all,

I wanted to call attention to an assault on a 15 year old son of a friend of mine on Tuesday at 5:00 PM who was walking home after fishing the Cape Cod Canal. He was attacked by 5 maggots as he was walking down a path between the baseball field and the Post Office slightly east of the Sagamore Bridge on the Cape side. He was beaten and robbed of his wallet, cellphone, fishing gear, sweatshirt, hat and sneakers. When this was reported to the Bourne police, the boy's mother was informed that there have been several other attacks on other fishermen, as well as several home and car break-ins in the same area. So, if you fish the area, be very careful...

I hate hearing crap like this. WTF would screw with a 15 yr old kid who is just minding his own business. What a bunch of cowards.

Keep your eyes peeled and trust noone at the canal. It is pretty sad when you have to worry about getting mugged when you are enjoying your free time.

That's just a crying shame.

I can't imagine what that poor 15 year old kid was feeling like while these punks were taking not only his gear but his CLOTHES too.

Hopefully the kid wasn't hurt too badly.

.
The maggots who live in the low income apartment complex across the street. You'll see them sitting on the steps of that closed Italian market on the corner of Adams St and Sandwich Rd, all decked out in their best New Beffa gangstah garb.

Earlier this year, one guy I know had a punk open the front door of his truck--while he was laying across the seat sleeping. The would-be thief got the surprise of his life. He ran to his car--a black Dodge Neon with a half-moon spoiler on the rear deck--and the fisherman chased him down the road. The roads were wet and he had to break off his chase--pick-ups don't corner as well on wet roads as wanna-be sports cars.

At least the police could have been on the look out for the Dodge Neon with the Obama sticker on it?

Let's just say that the Bourne PD is "familiar" with that Neon. The problem was, it's not against the law to open a car door if you don't attempt to take anything inside--this bum could well claim that he saw the guy laying across the seat and wanted to check to see if he was OK

BTW--if you're reading race into this, you couldn't be farther off base. The dude in the Neon is whiter than I am. Most of our local punks are. Oxycontin is basically color blind as to who it hooks.

That was the place I was thinking of as soon as I read this.

I remember that well, but never heard what (if anything) became of that. There was a rash of steeling going on at that time. Are you saying that those were the same scumbags as in this latest case?

It may be time for a little "canal justice". I'm not advocating vigilantyism, just making sure that any scumbags that will willing assault ANYONE are made to pay for their actions. Maybe police involvement, maybe a "stake-out" where an "unsuspecting" fisherman draws these social cockroaches out from the safety of their (possibly) subsidized "roach motels", and are treated to the same considerations they give their victims. In any case, if something isn't done to stop these assaults, they will only escalate in frequency as well as severity.

I hope the kid will see justice done, and that he will not be deterred from enjoying one of life's greatest pasttimes.

Should not be too hard to catch them. They keep rolling fishermen they're going to get shot sooner than later. No doubt there are some packed surfcasters who will go there with the hope of raising a different kind of fish. Talk about a risky demographic to pick for victims - not too bright.

Yeah this trend of people trying to be "gangsters" has to stop. It seems to be most popular with kids around the age of 15. It only works when they're in groups because for the most part they're all too cowardly to do this stuff on their own. Their friends encourage it and they think it makes them cool. I went to school at Trinity in Hartford and have never seen so much of this "gangster" nonsense in my life. It's everywhere now.

Of course if you happen to "toss" a lead head in their direction attached to some durable BRAID, what would happen if you were to pull back on a 100+lb. canal turd with some nice braid to "cheese slice" it's way through whatever part of his body it comes in contact with?
Sure, a jig in the head would surely leave a "trademark", but braid burns / slices are a "brand" all to themselves!

Plus, I carry a old swiss army knife around my neck on a cord, just long enough to keep whomever a good 2 feet away. Otherwise, they'll get beaned. Heck, I carry more than enough disposable stuff that could be used as a weapon if the event every arose.
Fortunately, I'm 6' 2" and 275 lbs.

For me the scary part of this thread is twofold. First, I was introduced to the Canal this year by Tynan, Throwing Timber and Stewie. One of the places we fished was near the PO. We parked our vehicles there. The other scary part is, do I now need to worry about y'all tryin to vigilantee my ass?

I'm licensed to carry in three New England states. Of course the Ted Kennedy manslaughter is legal liberal state of taxatwobits isn't one of them. I like the "question" of whether a "vicitim" is or isn't armed to be firmly fixed in the scumbags pea-sized brain. If you can't answer the question then don't chance it.

Defensive Tactics

You guys have forgotten the most available tool at your disposal. The thousands of five to ten pound barnacle covered rocks at your feet. If they get that close, smashing one of them in the shin/ankle area will break the bone rather quickly and painfully.

How about a whistle around your neck along with the knife. There are so many of us here that are there so often if we heard a whistle blow we could easily alert authorites to a problem in the general direction of the whistle. Christ at 3 a.m. the sound would travel on and on.

I'd have to say if you get jumped from behind after dark you'd best fight like a you know what.

Remember you have the right to use the force necessary that any prudent and ordinary person would use to defend themself/himself in the same situation.

Ya know somethin, I been fishin the ditch on late nights for the past 10 years or so and almost always travel alone. I always wondered if there was ever any trouble like this but I have never had a problem. Got my lic. to carry 3 years ago and I always got it with me down there so next time I'm draggin a bass over the tracks at the post office ....I'll be sure to have the safety off.

I wouldn't advise you to keep on carrying along the Canal--your LTC isn't worth the plastic it's printed on there. It's a violation of Federal law for a non-LEO to carry a firearm on the Canal, except in the Scussett Reservation where hunting is permitted in season. You could lose that LTC if you're caught carrying on Federal property.

Regardless of that, shooting a bunch of unarmed kids is also likely to get you into even deeper trouble with the Barnstable DA's office. You'd have an uphill fight to convince a jury that you felt that your life was in danger, and couldn't retreat with complete safety--and both of those are key to a claim of shooting in self-defense.

You think Lami would warranty a rod that broke while being used as a weapon of justice? Ive heard they are pretty good with warranty stuff. I could see putting a little to much behind a 5oz jig in that circumstance.

Everything is better on the rocks.
