Bandsaw Blade Grumpage!

So I break my last .020 gauge bandsaw blade a couple weeks ago......think I can get another one anywhere??!! NOPE! So I over night a few from McFeeley and they send the wrong gauge and do not stock the size I wanted even though they are who I got them from before......so $40.00 shipping down the toity! I go online to every tool seller I can find including the factory that makes them and I can't get them!!! The factory does not even list the size on their website even though they make the damn things!!!! I called everywhere I knew of around here, Woodcraft, Beaver WW, Black Bear Tool,.......finally I find a place in Texas that sells them and I place the order 10 days ago........so I wait.......and I wait........and........I.......wait! So I call today.......its been 10 days and I want to know where my blades are?!?!? "Oh".....the girl on the phone says....."Those are backordered for another 7 days"............................................. ...........................................so I calmly say......"Don't you folks let a customer know either by phone or on my online customer account that an item is backordered?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?" So she replies......"Well......we usually do!"???????????? Well thanks a crap-load and have a nice freakin' day!!!!!!

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

Larry,

Can't win can ya,

So did that first company knowingly take your order and ship you the wrong, but close blades without letting you know. I'd call them and get a return label from them and also reimburse you for wrong mechandise. You shouldn't have to pay for getting incorrect items.

I have a feeling 7 days from now the place in Texas will let you know that the blades are no longer available.....oh and sorry for not letting you know sooner.

Lucky for me Beamie I called the manufacturer and they told me just that! They were discontinued! While I was on that call the Texas company called to tell me the same......why couldn't they tell me that 10 friggin' days ago??!!?? I found someone else and will hopefully see them Wednesday! This has been a chore! Customer service absolutely sucks every place I have called!!!

Maybe you should stop breaking them, or learn how to weld them back together

You would be amazed how many of the places I called that were unable to tell me the gauge of the blades they were selling?!?! They had lengths, widths, TPI's........most were totally unable to tell me what the blade gauge was?! One place referred me to their "Technical Support Staff"......and they were unable to tell me the blade gauge until I suggested that they.....LOOK AT THE BOX!!!!!!!

Larry - try Ocean Welding. They can weld the blade if it is still worth fixing. Or any shop with decent equipment can repair them for you. A lot cheaper than a new blade.

Call MSC.. 1-800-645-7270... they should have the blade in stock...unless it's a real odd ball length.

I've got the book in front of me... they list 1/2"X.20 from 3'8 7/8 to 5' 4 1/2".... if your big time stuck and the blade is repairable and not bent... I might be able to help you out...

The first bandsaw that I ever saw had a welder built right into the side of it. The tech operating it was repairing a blade that had broken. I thought that they all came that way. C'mon I was only 12 at the time...

It probably looked like this old beast here.... the devise on the left is for cutting, welding and annealing blades..

Can't hurt you just scares the sh*t out of you. Karl you should see the ones they have down at WHOI. A couple have a 4 foot throat on them. Cast iron and weigh a ton. They hardly ever use them. Mint condition. The one I use is a little larger than the one Joe posted. A pleasure to work on. The sky is the limit with what you can do.

Larry I just broke my favorite blade. This blade is over 2.5 years old and has cut thousands of lip slots.

I don't know why but after I jumped out of my pants I thought of you
